The Saudi wing of al Qaeda claimed responsibility for an attack yesterday on the heavily fortified U.S. consulate in the Saudi city of Jeddah in which at least nine people died. The terrorists managed to haul down and burn the American flag and use hostage staffers as human shields before they were killed or captured.
"This operation is part of al Qaeda's plan to fight the crusaders and Jews and to expel infidels from the Arabian Peninsula," said a statement that was posted on several Web sites. "The mujahideen will continue firmly on their path."
The bloodshed ended after a four-hour shootout. "The attack . . . reminds us that the terrorists are still on the move," President Bush said.

Earlier in the day, Saudi officials said a "deviant" group their term for al Qaeda sympathizers began the attack at 11 a.m. sneaking on foot behind an embassy car as it entered the consulate.
The five terrorists lobbed hand grenades at guards to take control of the gate area, which lies inside the compound's outer wall, officials said.

As usual, the only thing accomplished by these Islamofacists is the killing of muslims.
If the Knights of Columbus started killing my family just because I was raised Catholic and didn't see things their way, I would be in a different church in a new york minute.
"This operation is part of al Qaeda's plan to fight the crusaders and Jews and to expel infidels from the Arabian Peninsula,"
What a lot of people don't realize and probably won't until it's too late is they consider the world the Arabian Peninsula.
Not to minimize in any way the tragic deaths of all innocents involved, but I'm rather surprised Al Qaeda would claim this attack. It's fairly amateurish and weak by Al Qaeda standards, and to me it's simply more evidence of the damage our fine fighting forces (along with our allies and other nations) have inflicted on those evil thugs.
Bastards.
I am not one to back the Saudi's too much but their efforts against their top 25 have been going very well.

Thats the best news that I have seen in a long time.
It's fairly amateurish and weak by Al Qaeda standards, and to me it's simply more evidence of the damage our fine fighting forces (along with our allies and other nations) have inflicted on those evil thugs.

Exactly Right. We are winning this war, though there is a long time before it is over. Our greatest danger is those who appease any terrorists in any way.
Yep, and Pakistan has racked up some major points against Al Qaeda (yes, we all agree there are still problems there). Abu Zubaydah, KSM, Hambali, and many other key AQ terrorists, not to mention all the low-level thugs that have been captured/killed by the Pakistanis (with our help, in many cases).
I just can't wait to see your lists. They are fantastic. Notice how many extremist clerics are on the list? We need to send them to Allah.
Aren't the staff inside the consulate allowed to carry a sidearm? Why can't these people defend themselves I thought a consulate was considered to be like a small piece of their home country?
What gives??
MD
That is the SECOND thing I would do.
