December 7, 2004 -- "I support the ban on religious music in the schools, because I feel that it makes children, who do not celebrate a particular holiday or have a particular religion . . . uncomfortable." A parent from the Maplewood, N.J. school district, which has banned "religious music" in a holiday concert. NO doubt that much of the animus toward religion that permeates public schools is "justified" with the excuse that it makes some people "uncomfortable." But is "discomfort" an educational standard? Are we to refrain from subjecting students to anything uncomfortable? Maplewood, N.J., school policy permits "the inclusion of religious literature, music, drama, (etc.) provided . . . it neither inhibits nor advances any religious point of view." Yet a "few complaints" about last year's concert lyrics about Jesus or angels made non-Christians feel "left out" resulted in this year's ban. Thus, "left out" equals "uncomfortable," equals a ban. The bet here is that if the school got a "few complaints" from parents "uncomfortable" about making condoms or abortion clinic addresses available to students, the board would develop a "backbone." But religion is an easy target, made more so by those whose hypocrisy knows no bounds: One of the reasons often cited for these bans is the need to promote "diversity."

Secularism makes me uncomfortable.
Just try blocking rap "music" because it makes some white kids "uncomfortable!"
Gee, the ACLU AND CAIR make me "uncomfortable"... get them out of schools now.
One of my friends is a teacher. At her school they are not allowed to participate in halloween, as some parents feel it is too pagan. So the door flies both ways.
I think both are rediculous policies.
The ACLU offends me in every way. Everytime I see or hear them I get very uncomfortable. May we include them on the list of things to be excluded?
Actually they support a ban on Christian music
Because it makes Christian children feel uncomfortable
and the Christ haters just love that....
imo
"The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear."
10. "Jingle Bell Rock"
9. "White Christmas"
8. "Chestnuts Roasting"
7. "Silver Bells"
6. "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"
5. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"
4. "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
3. "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland"
2. "Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer"
And the worst, most evil, annoying, irritating Mall Music Christmas song ever:
1. "Jingle Bells" performed "Jazz style"
Believe me, thats next.
The Kenny G version ranks no. 2.
I heard on 77 ABC the other day that they wont even let them sing Rudolph in that school because they mention Christmas Eve in the song.
This has got to stop.
Maybe that's the one I'm thinking of. I just didn't realize she was the "artist." That just gives me more of a reason to hate it.
