I read mine, too. There was a lot there the recruiter never mentioned, but I went ahead with it anyway, figuring it sure as heck beat working in a factory next to my mother for the next 20+ years...
I'm sure if "Stop-Loss" had been implemented in my case, I'd have been a little irked, but I would have gotten over it... ;0)

Great post. God bless him.

Yes, put me down also for molten, acidic contempt for this little drool.

Thanks for the clarification. You'd think I would remember, as I stood before Art. 15/Capt's Mast twice in my illustrious 6 year USCG career. First one I lost 2 stripes, 1/2 months pay for 2 months, 45 days restriction and 45 days extra-duty. 2nd one I was basically "acquitted".

It's clearly spelled out in the enlistment contract. Of course, I must be the only guy who actually read the thing BEFORE signing it. Well, Poohbah, that makes two of us (and I was only 17 at the time). Signed a few extensions since then, too. If I recall correctly, the operative phrase goes something like "unless earlier released or extended by competent authority." Even as a teenager, I understood what this meant.

He was wearing a black T-shirt exclaiming "Like a Cabinet member" That's hilarious. He definitely needs to study his chain of command. Not one cabinet member who has resigned is in it.

The original "Bonhomme Richard" was the ship of John Paul Jones wasn't it?
The founder of the American Navy would be ashamed of this punk little jailhouse lawyer.
PS - Jones himself was an immigrant of sorts (Russian ancestry, etc.).

Oops - he was of Scottish descent - but I have read of his travels and involvement with the Russian court.

Not that a cabinet member resigning would make a bit of difference to his situation.
I was just talking to a friend about this. He's a volunteer fireman and used to be full time. A few weeks ago we were discussing a similar coward and I asked what the heck are they teaching in schools these days. He informed me that all new firemen in our area have to sign a letter stating that they are aware that firefighting can be hazardous and may involve injury or death. There's actually people who don't know that.
