The Navy's failure to throw this bum into the brig speaks volumes about our new, sensitive military.

Paredes, the son of Ecuadorean immigrants, has done 4½ years of a six-year enlistment.

You take Uncle Sam's nickel, you dance to his tune and it does not matter if you like or don't like the band.

Court martial this punk. His only defense is that he does not want to go. This is different than those who have served their contracts (8 years in a combination of active, reserve, or inactive reserve) and do not wish to continue their employment with Uncle Sam.

Part II

"himself a veteran of a Western Pacific deployment"

I'm sorry, but what is that supposed to mean? I never really thought about it, but are you a veteran if you serve in a war or if you just serve in a branch of the service? My father never refers to himself as a vet because he served for 8 years during which there was no conflict and he was in the Navy too.
Sounds to me like this news outlet is just trying to lend some legitimacy to a person who doesn't deserve it. This sounds to me like the very first time this person might have to actually do their job they wimp out, and this news outlet wants to gloss over that fact.

Here in San Diego we got hours of his showboating, he went to fox 6 on Saturday to set up his "stunt" also met with "antiwar" groups that were suppose to show up in support (they didn't) I heard he met them in a Jr. College class (Possible left wing instructor....Naw) currently he is guilty of missing a ship movement (not good in war time) but has 29 more days to figure out how to put himself back on the boat before AWOL charges are filed.

Two things:

1) This chump just ruined his life;

2) He should be in the brig

His ship is FAR better off without him.

"Somebody has to go risk their lives for their country..."

It just shouldn't have to be me. Somebody else needs to do it. Man, I got important $hit to do.

"Troops “are not told what exactly is the reason behind it,” he said."

It's none of your damned business. You joined the Navy, you volunteered, so do what you're told. No one said you got to pick and choose your war. After you get out of the brig, you need to be sent back to your Ecuadorian paradise where you belong.

So, if I've got this right; This Dip-Sh*t Petty Officer who raised his right hand and swore to defend his Country against "All Enemies Foreign and Domestic".
Now doesn't like the War we're in and tell his Commander In Chief to go pound sand.

UNBELIEVABLE !!

Does the Navy still have a Cat-O-Nine Tales laying around.??

What a coward! Sailors aren't in much danger, as compared to the Army and Marines, and this pansy still won't go. He probably wants to stay home with his new boyfriend.

IMHO it's all about recruiting. Draconian punishments may send a message to those already in. It will send a different message to high school kids, and especially their mamas, who may already have qualms about junior signing on the dotted line. I think that's a big reason for the go slow approach. Nobody's ever gone through a protracted war with an all volunteer military in modern times, and they're still trying to figure it all out.

The media ignores all heroism by our military and instead chooses to focus exclusively on the cowards and punks who suddenly claim CO status as it dawn on them that the military isn't just about giving them a free ride on college tuition.
