Publishers Weekly Names 'America' (The Book) Jon Stewarts Riff on Politics, Book of the Year
Jon Stewarts' 'America,' (The Book) the television commentators riff on politics and other matters of historical staire, has been named Book of the Year by Publishers Weekly, the industry trade magazine.
In announcing the award Monday, Pubishers Weekly called the book 'a serious critique of the two party system, the corporations that finance it, and the spinless cowards in the press who aggressively print allegiation and rumor independent of accuracy and fairness.'
Stewart's book was released in September and immediately topped best seller lists even as Wal Mart declined to stock the book, citing a page featuring the faces of the nine US Supreme Court justices superimposed over naked bodies.

Michelle Malkins books should always be in contention, but what about "Unfit for Command". Not only was it #1 for longer than Jon Stewarts book, but no one can argue that it didn't have a national impact this year.
Your right, it was the Swifites year..
I would have thought Hamilton by Ron Chernow would have capture a prize as the best, most insightful bio and political tome of the year.
But, heck, what do I know.
That is a great recommendation, was that released at the beginning of the year?
His book obviously didn't influence enough people, so who cares? Let him have his meaningless title.
All their pick shows me is that the "book game" is just the same as the Hollywood game. I just heard O'Reilly on his radio show bemoaning the fact that Farenheit 9/11 will be a nominee for "Best Picture" at the Oscars.
They all live in the same world, it figures they would chose a book written by a comedian (how much was actually written by him, anyway).
Does O'Reilly know this for sure yet?
I think it is a 'fake' textbook, Stewart and the publisher are assuming some kids will pick up it and think it is actually true..
It's a satire. Meant to be a comical look at American goverment. And Oreilly can't know anything about Oscras Noms for sure. They ar still being voted on and will not be announced till January.
Thanks for supplying that information regarding the Oscar nominations.
I guess I shouldn't have posted what O'Reilly said because I was only doing a radio drive-by while Rush was on commercial, so I didn't hear what was said before he made that remark. He may be only speculating but he did go on to say how the media will make a HUGH deal about this, like it was a "legitimate" contender even though it won't win (O'Reilly's prediction, not mine).
BTW, I never pay attention to the Academy Awards so I had no idea that the nominees haven't been named yet. Just don't care, actually.
I personally think F9/11 won't be get much at all. I have a hunch the Hollywood community is sick of MM. You never see any of the big Hollywood types around him. He's an outsider who they have used as it suits them.
Hope you are right---couldn't happen to a creepier idiot!!!
Yup. It's a great read. I especially liked Chernow's bio of Rockefeller the First, Titan. Chernow is probably the best bio writer out there. IMHO.
I heard he is a Canadian? Is that true and what the hell is he doing in our country?
Jon Stewart was born in New York city. There are lots of Canadians in our country. :-)
There is an interesting push by the media to make Jon Stewart and his occasionally funny cable show something that it is not, relevant.
For the life of me, I can't understand all of the publicity that he has been getting. I don't know anyone who watches this show. I am a 30 year old fan of SNL who thinks that Farley and Farrell are hilarious. You would think that my demographic would love this show if it were in fact, funny or relevant. Yet, no one I know ever talks about it. So, who is watching and why is the media trying to force it down our throats.
Thanks for clearing that up because I had been told that he was actually a Canadian. We have that Peter Jennings after all and that's bad enough.
