With the Kerry/Bush campaign donation split running 32-1 at Harvard and 22-1 Penn, statistical evidence couples with anecdotal evidence to suggest that top schools shut out conservative voices. But shouldnt conservatives be concerned not only with what isnt being taught, but with what is? Hamilton College has hired Susan Rosenberg, an advocate of the violent overthrow of the U.S. government, to teach a one-month writing course on the Clinton, New York campus starting in January 2005. Rosenberg received a masters degree through correspondence courses while in prison, but the qualifications that won her the job seem to be her credentials as a member of a left-wing terrorist group.
In 1984, a federal court in New York sentenced Rosenberg to 58 years in jail for possessing nearly 700 pounds of explosives and a cache of weapons.
Although many suspected Rosenberg of playing a supporting role in the murder of two Nyack, New York police officers, authorities stopped pursuing charges against her on that case after she received a lengthy sentence for the separate explosives charge.
But that lengthy sentence was never fulfilled, as Bill Clinton pardoned Rosenberg on his last day as president. Now Rosenberg will teach Resistance Memoirs: Writing, Identity, and Change at one of the most prestigious liberal arts colleges in the nation.
When hunting for a job, its generally not a good idea to highlight convicted terrorist on your resume. Employer exceptions to this rule include al-Qaida and certain American universities.
Susan Rosenberg is just the latest in a long line of academic hires made not in spite but because of the criminal past of the applicant.
Alex Rackley admitted to shooting a fellow Black Panther in the back of the head and was convicted of second-degree murder. Following a stint in prison in the 70s, Eastern Connecticut State hired him as a dean for several years.
Sixties-radical Bill Ayers bombed the Pentagon as part of the Weather Underground. Today, Ayers serves as a distinguished professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
The tolerance extended to radical terrorists is not extended to mainstream conservatives.
This semester, Ann Coulter dodged pie-wielding leftists at the University of Arizona and Michelle Malkin spoke at Berkeley over a mob attempting to drown out her words.
Contrast this abuse with the fawning treatment schools have afforded convicted murderers, bombers, and accused accomplices of terrorists.
Convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal has delivered audiotaped graduation-day addresses at Antioch College, Evergreen State University, Occidental College, and UC-Santa Cruz.
Last year, Duke University described invited speaker Laura Whitehorn as a former political prisoner. In reality, Whitehorn had served fourteen years in a federal penitentiary for bombing the U.S. Capitol in 1983.
Stanford paid $1,000 to Lynne Stewart, a lawyer indicted for aiding Islamic terrorists, to speak to and mentor law students. Stewart labeled 9/11 an armed struggle. I have a hard time figuring out why that is wrong, she adds.
One cost of a professoriate politically alienated from the surrounding nation is a lionization on campus of those who express their alienation in the most extreme manner. In this way, killers, bombers, and terrorists get transformed from criminals into victims, from villains into heroes.
America is at war, and its top universities aid those who would wage war on America.
What would have happened, say, in World War II-era America if a top school invited an accused Nazi turncoat to deliver a guest lecture? Today, guest lecturers and faculty who praise America are likely to face greater campus hostility than those who reflexively blame America.
There is something hilariously self-refuting in violent revolutionaries, who preach the evils of intolerant America, getting bankrolled by leading American schools. But to make the point that America isnt the intolerant incubator of hatred they make it out to be, wouldnt it be enough for us just to let these jailbird intellectuals speak freely without the imprimatur of leading academic institutions, the subsidy of unwitting alumni, or the command of impressionable students?
Like say Ernst Hanfstaengel...try a google seach on Hansfstaengel and Harvard and see what you get. He was German, graduated from Harvard, and was invited back on numerous occasions as became involved with the Nazi's.
As you can tell by the MSM (same secular resumes), terrorists are usually defined as freedom fighters and insurgents.
I know people in that strange land of the so-called intelligentsia and they have often said, for example, about the Palestinians,
"being deprived as they are by Israel, terror is the only weapon they have against Israeli tanks and missiles..."
It makes me sick to hear it, but that is the way secular people think...and that is why they have and will continue to side with the enemies of devout Christians and orthodox Jews.
What exactly do you mean by the "academic world"?
Is that a euphemism for groups of success-oriented megalomaniacs or are you seriously trying to imply that the nature of evil cannot be discussed in rational, intellectual activities? Obviously it has. Countless philosophers from Plato in ancient times up until this day have been discussing evil and trying to plan out as many effective ways to confront it as possible. Even Christianity and Judeism do far more than appeal to raw animallike emotions to confront evil. These two are very intelligent religions and deserve to be honored with doubt and discourse. Yes, being religious people does not make us Gods ourselves. We make mistakes and need to learn how to avoid making them.
Academics who support terrorism are not true intellectuals, they are priggish affirmative-action students who sleep through lectures, cheat on tests, and spend every moment of their spare time under a funnel or looking through one.
"being deprived as they are by Israel, terror is the only weapon they have against Israeli tanks and missiles..."
Despite their good intentions, the Isreali government officials have been having some difficulty with territorial polices. Without our help and advice they will be too preoccupied with this problem to see a more horrible problem, one among their own ranks. SOME Isreali troops have betrayed their peaceful, anti-genocide nation and resorted to terrorism. These traitors convert to the new Islam and strategically murder Isreali and Palestinian civilians alike. The intended targets are the children. There are criminals in every nation, even Isreal, even the US. But you already know this.
The question is divine and righteous, it is time that we us it. Terrorists never question their beliefs, that's why they always die with them.
