Turnpike Authority drops publicist
Firm had worked for anti-Kerry group
By Frank Phillips, Globe Staff | December 11, 2004 The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, facing the wrath of state Democratic leaders, yesterday canceled the contract of a Washington, D.C., public relations firm that during the presidential campaign worked for Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the group that attacked John F. Kerry's Vietnam war record.
.....
In a statement that reflects the deep bitterness about the swift boat group's tactics, a Kerry spokesman blasted the decision to hire Russell and his firm, calling it ''just the latest breathtakingly stupid decision by the Republicans in charge of the Big Dig."

Oh? Does Kerry have something against The Big Dig?
A-holes, that's the only correct decision they have made since their first shovel full of dirt
Sounds like a good time for a Lawsuit against Mass TPA, sKerry, DNC
Help me out here, I read (I thought) and don't completely understand this article. I also need some help with "The
Big Dig" what is it?
After what happened to me this year I will never vote for another demoRAT again, ever.
"There are a lot of people out there that still harbor ill feelings towards Kerry and would contribute $$ in a heartbeat."
I will contribute to whoever is nominated by the pubbies to run against this traitorous loser for Senate. I don't have a lot of $$ but I'll send something.
Won't that be sweat?
SO9
Call me a nitpicker but exactly what ies and distortions were promulgated by the Swift-Vets?
What happened?
. . .The Left can outdo any Repub when it comes to 'taking care' of those they have little use for. . .be it retribution or just for political convenience. . .
These Dems are loathesome people. . .to the max.
I wish this was duly noted by every news outlet. . .and not on a weekend.
The big dig is the highway, bridge, tunnel, and railway contruction through Boston. It is starting to have problems already and is several BILLIONS over budget.
The Big Dig is the largest "public works" project in history. About $15 billion to put underground many of the roads through downtown Boston. Unfortunately, the tunnels are leaking water like sieves.
Do a Google, and realize that much of the money came from the federal government, i.e. you and your fellow taxpayers.
A few things that I will not go into on a public forum.
That is a typically confusing statement by a typically confused DemocRAT. Is he opposed to the fraud, waste and abuse incurred by The Big Dig or his he opposed to the idea that Republicans should be allowed to criticize The Big Dig as being fraught with waste, fraud and abuse?
I'm not from that region so I can only go with what I've heard and read about The Big Dig. In short, it was an effort to build underground roadways to ease Boston's traffic problems. I'm not sure if they're even done with it. It might still be going on.

I'm not going to *sweat* it. However, it would be *sweet* if Kerry just went away sailing in the Caribbean on his wife's and taxpayer $200k allowance for life.
It has cost over twice the original budget; and the tunnel is leaking.
I don't either .. but I will send what I can to get Kerry out of the Senate
I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HE DID!
It will catch up to FnKerry one day. Don't lose hope.
As corrupt as the project is, they may have done the firm a favor.
>>Republicans in charge of the Big Dig." <<
HA! Hubby calls it "Teddy's hole."
Business as usual for the DNC, hey, Tonk?
"I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HE DID!"
Nope, but he payed the price, that b*st*rd. Maybe he'll try and land a few blows on Hillary! in 2008. We shall see, and WE SHALL PREVAIL!
Yeah, election 2004, the greatest political moment of my life, to watch that slime go down to defeat. All blue staters here, but none of my voters felt their votes were wasted, they all said "It's in the three million margin" THEY ALL SAID THIS, on their own, no prompting!
And may God bless Mark Levin, the radio host who kept me sane. I will never forget the feeling of serenity that descended on me when I realized he was right and the exit polls had to be wrong.
That was some amazing night, so much better than 2000 where I was basically arrestable. On a D & D if not worse! Still amazed hubby didn't 911 me.
Too bad main stream right wing media don't have the guts to speak up.
Odd how right wing media does
BUT not the main stream right wing media.
Guess they are to busy selling merchandise and/or subscriptions.
I still owe Kerry one. I'm not through with paybacks yet.
I'm from CT and have much family from Mass. The Big Dig is a grandious construction project designed to keep stupid Massholes content with their socialist political leaders, and to divert their attention away from the abortion that Massachussetts has become.
The amazing part is, everyone in Mass LOVES the Big Dig! They are so proud of all the money they spend and receive from the government as a result of Kennedy's shmoozing. All the newspapers brag about it on the front page daily, as if its national news or somethin. The Boston Museum of Science as an exhibit where they pretty much continually brag about how much money the Big Dig is costing.
Transportation in Boston is propably up there with the worst cities in the World, think Mexico city and Calcutta. That goes for all of Mass as well. Their brilliant answer to the problem was to allow drivers to drive in the break down lane. The result is you basically have two passing lanes of idiot Masshole drivers (infamous for being the worst drivers in the county) goin 90 MPH+ on both sides of you. The break down lane keeps ending every 1/2 mile or so and then a huge wave of Massholes in the break down lane push into your lane, it gets all screwed up when an on ramp comes up as well. I can't imagine what you would have to do if your car broke down! (Do they still have this rule? I tend to stay away from Mass)
To all the Mass freepers here, don't take offense, I would bash CT just as much and our Adrien's Landing. This just happens to be a Mass bashing thread.
We always were bad for business TGYC. What can I say that you don't know?
I'm not going to *sweat* it. However, it would be *sweet* if Kerry just went away sailing in the Caribbean on his wife's and taxpayer $200k allowance for life.
Ouch!

At least ADriens landing doesnt have a breakdown lane!

Actually, Johnston must have been misquoted. I'm sure he said "It was a responsible and truthful campaign to destroy John Kerry's reputation following Kerry's lies and distortions about his military record." After all, who changed their story after the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth came forward? Hmmmm?
Hey, hey, ho, ho, Kerry: sign the one-eight-oh.
Jerome R. Corsi is thinking about running.
For what it's worth he's also a Freeper, although I don't recall his screen name.
BTTT!!!!!!
The Big Dig's cost has also long been an ugly issue.
In 1991, the estimated price tag was $6.5 billion.
Now it's $14.6 billion.
"You'd better hope we don't win!" One of the many Brownshirts for Kerry working for the Democrats.
It is politically okay to discriminate against someone because of his political views but not because of his sexual fetish. Odd though because I thought that political speech was protected.
Expose Kerry ~ Bump!
Thanks for the ping!
I lived in Taxachussetts for 10 years, when I went to school. Horrible place. Moved out as soon as I could.
What bothers me about this post is that it seems somewhat improbable, even for a state rank with corruption.
I now work for a contractor to the gov'ment. And, government purchasing policies are extraordinarily strict. You simply cannot hire and fire contractors at will. There is a formal process, as there should be.
The underlying principle is "fairness of opportunity." Since tax dollars are at work, all contractors must have an equal chance at accessing RFQs and the RFQs must be fair and specific to the task at hand.
Political favoritism is unlawful. Moreover, it is easy to enforce. If the MBTA authority did indeed cancel a contract because of politics, then the Publicity Agency can file a complaint with the State's Attorney Inspector General (IG) office. It is a couple of hours work and a form. They will investigate. The consequences can easily be criminal.
Not that I would put criminal behavior past our "friends" at the now-defunct Kerry campaign, but you have to wonder if the bureaucrats were so stupid that they would risk criminal prosecution (administrative punishment at the very least) just for politics.
Oh, well, I guess I just talked myself out of this. Of course they could be that stupid.
Alas.
