I would have voted for Peterson, but it's a good pick.
No vote tabulations yet on the others?
Should have been the freshman. He's as good a frosh football
player as I have ever seen.
Ditto. If Peterson stays clean and OU's next offensive line is even halfway decent, he's gonna tear things up next year.
This award is NOT for the best college player. It's for the best junior-senior college football player.

GO UTES!!!
The Heisman voting lost its grandeur for me when Peyton Manning was passed over a few years back.
Not how I would have voted:
1. Adrian Peterson
2. Reggie Bush
3. Alex Smith
4. Jason White
5. Matt Leinhart
I was rooting for Jason White, who needs two anyway.

At least Leinert has a chance to stick on an NFL team unlike that crybaby Crouch from Nebraska that got the Heisman over Harrington and Carr. Peterson will get his due after another season or two.
Watch for Petersen (Oklahoma) and Reggie Bush (Southern California) next year.
I'm sure Matt's 0 TD, 1 INT performance agains the lowly Bruins clinched it. *rolls eyes*
It's 2000 all over again.....
2003 Jason White Oklahoma QB
2002 Carson Palmer Southern Cal QB
2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska QB
2000 Chris Weinke Florida State QB
1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin RB
1998 Ricky Williams Texas RB
1997 Charles Woodson Michigan DB/WR
1996 Danny Wuerffel Florida QB
1995 Eddie George Ohio State RB
1994 Rashaan Salaam Colorado RB
1993 Charlie Ward Florida State QB
1992 Gino Torretta Miami QB
1991 Desmond Howard Michigan WR
1990 Ty Detmer Brigham Young QB
1989 Andre Ware Houston QB
1988 Barry Sanders Oklahoma State RB
1987 Tim Brown Notre Dame WR
1986 Vinny TestaverdeMiami QB
1985 Bo Jackson Auburn RB
1984 Doug Flutie Boston College QB
1983 Mike Rozier Nebraska RB
1982 Herschel Walker Georgia RB
1981 Marcus Allen Southern Cal. RB
1980 George Rogers South Carolina RB
Mr. Heisman has not been too kind to QBs in the NFL since the 60's and 70's, eh?
What a dumb post.
Yeah, PAC Ten football is a joke.
Us Too!!! However, AD played in HS for my hubby's hometown....We are still in the area & rarely missed any of his HS games.
AD is truely a talented athlete & all round 'good person' & always has 'the time' for all his fans here in E. TX who have always supported him.
Absolutely correct! Stevie Wonder coulda seen it...
Dumb post by you, too.
Man oh man what a bust he was. And of course my team was the one that drafted him!!!!!!!
How do you figure? The PAC Ten is beyond weak, not a single quality team outside of USC... They don't play ANYBODY. All Leinart and Bush's numbers are inflated against inferior teams. If USC played in the the SEC or Big Twelve they'd have 3+ loses. They almost lost to freak'n Oregon State!
What a joke. Garrison Hearst got screwed that year.
Leinart earned it and it set up a great natinoal chmapionship game.
Another dumb post. While you are at it, why don't you have a look at the current NFL rosters, and ask yourself why the PAC-10 has the second highest number of players and starters of any conference in the country. And then ask yourself how all these guys got to the NFL, playing is such a lousy conference. What a dumb-ass.
Oddly enough, my Raiders have had 5 Heisman Winners play for us since 1980 (Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Bo Jackson, Desmond Howard albeit briefly, and Charles Woodson).
Is Reggie Bush calling for a recount? ;)
Maybe the UTES or Auburn will tear down the Berlin Wall this year
Since when do NFL teams college football?
We had 5 too, 6 if you count Billy Sims.
We had Billy Sims(Hall of Famer if it wasn't for injuries), Andre Ware(disaster) and Barry Sanders by the draft. Also briefely had Desmond Howard(punt/kick returner), Ty Detmer(backup QB) and Gino Toretta(backup QB) after they were cast off.
"Since when do NFL teams college football?"
Another dumb post. Can I buy a verb?
There have been some great people who have won the Heisman. Roger Staubach, and Danny Wuerffel (sp?), are two of them.
Here's another one for you. From 1998-2002, of the top 32 college football programs having the most players in the NFL, EIGHT of the top 32 programs are from the Pac-10. EIGHT of the ten Pac-10 teams are in the top 32. But of course, they don't play very good football in that league.
Never heard of Cal? #4 in the nation. Wake up.
Keep going Trojans!
I'm not sure which is dumber - dumb posts or someone calling everyone else's posts "dumb posts". Must be part of the dumbing down of America(!).
I'd have gone with OU's Peterson. Although this award isn't about pro-potential, I predict that Matt Leinart will not make it in the NFL. His arm isn't strong enough and he is slow-footed. His lollipop-soft darts may get it done on Saturdays, but not Sundays.
I just thought they were dumb posts!

"The Heisman voting lost its grandeur for me when Peyton Manning was passed over a few years back."
Yes, that really exposed the "fairness" of Heisman voting.
Peyton should have won, no doubt.
I'm glad he has since put those Heisman voters in their place.
Eddie George was a totally acceptable choice.
1994 should have been Steve McNair, though.
"Never heard of Cal? #4 in the nation. Wake up."
I'm really not here to argue about the PAC. I just remember that Southern Miss came very close to beating Cal.
With just about 5 minutes left in the game I think they were tied. Then Southern Miss made some costly mistakes. But for most of the game Southern Miss was on equal playing ground with Cal.
They were talking about Matt's eye problem. Anyone know anything about that and the surgery...Or did I hear wrong?
Yeah, and Oregon State had to miss 3 extra points to enable 'powerhouse' LSU to beat them, at LSU, earlier this year. You can play this game over and over, with every team in the country. But people who doubt the strength of Pac-10 football are just not paying attention, and have an almost liberal-like disregard for facts.
Nevermind. I bet you meant his most recent chance at the trophy when Woodson won. I can see your point.
I am a big Peyton Manning fan but wasn't a Tennessee fan. Which year was he supposed to win the Heisman?
You're right. All leagues have their weak moments.
He is just a Bama fan that has been upset these last few years , and now his arch rival Auburn has been released from probation.
Hmmmm, Well, In that case....
I am a Utah man, sir, and I live across the green
Our gang it is the jolliest that you have ever seen
Our coeds are the fairest and each one's a shining star
Our yell you'll hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who Am I, sir, A Utah Man Am I.
A Utah Man, sir, and will be til I die. Ki! Yi!
We're up to snuff we never bluff
We're game for any fuss
No other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS
So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky
We'll fight for dear ol' Crimson for a Utah Man Am I!
GO UTES! :)
Bobby Hurley was doing ok, not great, but ok until that car wreck.
1997, the year Charles Woodson won it.
