How To Speed Up Firefox (Helpful Vanity)

Posted on 12/12/2004 12:45:50 PM PST by KoRn

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

I found this info on the Firefox site, and should only be done by broadband users.

I did it myself, and it works wonders!!

If you want to print it out so that you can follow the guide, you don't have to.

Hit ctrl+t to open a new tab. Go from there.

Does anyone know how to make the "back" switch on my Logitech mouse change to the previous page like it does in IE?

"might try it"

By all means! I always thought Firefox was a little slow loading pages, but was willing to live with it due to the extra security it offers.

Doing what I posted makes Firefox as fast as IE, if not faster.

No, but did you know you can now buy a real cupholder for your computer instead of using the CDROM drive? They're either 10 or 20 bucks.

You have to close your browser after you make the changes. When you start it back up they will be in effect.

No problem, after I did it myself I knew it would be helpful for others.

Now the DUmmies can get the ZOT even faster from the Firefox faithful. ;-)
