Yushchenko supports abortion and other progressive causes. He isn't exactly "saved".

By the way, there is no KGB, the KGB was a conglomerate of 7 directives: intelligence gathering, internal affairs (these are the guys that killed people), internal investigations (think FBI), border guards, state police and VIP security.

No, no, don't you know, it's only their elected officials doing this, why all those who elected them, they actually all voted for Yushchenko, who speaks for all Ukraine. /sarcasm

After all, the resource firesale he did once and will do again to the IMF/Soros crowd is in eastern/souther Ukraine.

Hay, wierder and stupider things have been done. Yassar Arafat used to kill of his closest and loyalist lieutenants and blame it on mythical "splinter" groups from the PLO to make himself look like a "moderate".

Beria convinced Stalin of his "loyalty" by having one of his closest and loyalist man, armed with a submachine gun, pop out from a bush near Stalin's car to show Stalin how well guarded he was. Beria then poppped out and killed the "assassin".

Remember, Yushchenko is also a product of the communist system and a former high level appartechik of the system before it collapsed.

Dioxin poisoning must be a very strange and selective poison. When veterans tried to link it (from Agent Orange defoliant) to a variety of ailments – including skin lesions – we were assured by our government betters that it was perfectly safe and of no concern.
When a small amount of dioxin contamination was discovered in the asphalt paving of the town of Love Canal, our government betters went hyper and bought the entire town to save the population from the terrible dioxin.

Quite understandable...and I wouldn't have even said anything, except that you had already made one self-correction, so I thought I would chime in...

I know there is no KGB, but I don't know the current Russian and Ukrainian equivalent, so I was just using it as "short hand" for whatever they are called today. But the point is, does anyone think they would be so extremely stupid, that they would poison Yushchenko right at a dinner with the Ukrainian intelligence, and in a way, that he survives and the poison gets detected, etc.

jb6 you are missing the big picture a bit (not talking about poison)

5-6 governrors got changed this week... Dnepropetrovsk governor was against considering seperation and he was changed to one of Kuchma's 'advisors' same thing happened to the governor of Kharkov the oblsovet was for autonomy while the governor spoke out against it he got changed.
Also Ternopil, Lwov, Khmelnitsk governors got changed they all declared for Yusch even before the elections and would only admit to him being president. I m not sure if the south-eastern regions still dont send tax revenues to kiev because they stopped on election day after Yanukovich was not confirmed and they thought a coup was immenent.

Basicly whats happening is very simple Kuchma is hedging both sides because he knows what will happen if western regions take power. There will be an insane ammout attacks on taking over south-eastern business to redistribute to your own backers which will harm the workers and create a huge wave of unrest. These governor manuverings are insuring whichever way it goes there will be a lower chance of open conflict and just semi-quiet seperation.

If Dnepropetrovsk region leaves all 8 or 9 south eastern regions will leave if it doesn't maybe only the 3 or 4 regions that border russia will.

I m fairly more certain that if Yanukovich wins there will be no separation of anyone and Ukraine will keep unity. However if Yuschenko wins there is an insured sense of separation built into the whole scenario.

"Except for the fact that no one has ever died from Dioxin. Other then that little fact..."

How many people who have died have been tested for complications arising from Martian genetic testing? Just as valid a question as yours.

western Ukraine is non-viable. Carpathia already voted to secede and join Slovakia and Poland still wants Lvov and surrounding regions back.

I m pretty certain they wanted to do it several years ago. There was two Eukraines anyways prior to soviet reunifications of both into a one whole.

"How many people who have died have been tested for complications arising from Martian genetic testing? Just as valid a question as yours."

Right, this subject is about "tested for complications arising from Martian genetic testing". What extremes Putin worshipers go, the old mantra still in play 'whatever it takes'.
