BuyBlue.org Urges Support of Liberal Companies at Christmas--FREEPING NEEDED
BUYBLUE.ORG ^ | 12/17/04 | ME

Posted on 12/17/2004 9:46:31 AM PST by I'm ALL Right!

Want to know which companies support your political agenda? BuyBlue.org wants "blue" voters to support those companies which they have dubbed "blue", according to various criteria, including which candidates/agendas they support. They list red and blue companies of all sorts, including retail shopping, clothing, "spirits", restaurants, hotels, airlines, oil and gas, grocery, holiday-related", entertainment and technology.

I want to thank them for spelling out in such detail which companies I, as a conservative, should not support. We can use their lists to support the "red" companies this Christmas season.

Visit the site, and see their lists...I doubt I should actually post them here!

Feel free to pass this information on to your friends via e-mail.

Oh, and "Merry Christmas!!!!"

Thanks for putting the e-mail addy. BTW, I've copied the lists to my computer, in case they realize what a huge mistake this is, and people would like to see the lists after they take them off the website.

I noticed that Target and Safeway were listed as "red stores." Surprising considering the backlash towards Target over the Salvation Army. Also surprising is that Safeway is unionized.

Only the rank and file are unionized. MgMent knows that unions effectively kill production like RAID does roaches!

I wonder why Buy Blue.org isn't being dragged into court for hate speech, promoting segregation, etc? They cry for "tolerance" but yet they don't have any.

Looks like more "Outback" and less "Sonic" for me. Oh well, I like steak better than corn-dogs anyway.

This is fantastic! Of all the companies listed, my favorites are RED companies. Great list. I knew there was a reason I hated the likes of Costco and Shell.

Thanks for letting us know which companies to avoid (blue) and which to support (red). I guess I will have to take my business from Costco to Sam's Club. Most of the others I was aware of.

Merry Christmas to all.

Great find!

No surprise that Home Deport, Dollar General, and Cracker Barrel are among the good guys, eh?

A message from the Center for Responsive Politics about the "Shopping Your Politics" email circulating through the Internet: In recent days we have been made aware of an email and related Web sites that advise recipients to shop with certain companies based on which political party those companies support with their campaign contributions. The email cites the Center for Responsive Politics and our Web site, OpenSecrets.org, for the campaign contribution figures. Please note that the Center did not author the email and has no relationship to its author. The Center is a non-partisan research organization that does not endorse or promote any political party or candidate in any context. Nor do we take any position on the views or activities advocated in the email. Also note that the campaign contribution figures in the email are inaccurate and and do not reflect current information from our Web site. We invite those wanting correct figures or further information to visit OpenSecrets.org. Our Industry Profiles list total contributions to federal candidates and party committees by industry and sector. The profiles also display the top contributors within each industry and sector. Contributions are from employees and political action committees of the organizations listed. Corporations and labor unions cannot contribute directly to candidates, and since the end of 2002, they have not been able to contribute directly to political parties. Questions about the email, our industry profiles or our work in general should be directed to info@crp.org.

I'm a liberal, but I don't really think this list will make much difference to me. I buy something cause I want it, not because of the politics of who's selling it. Maybe there are extremes, I mean, I probably wouldn't buy hot dogs from Hitler, but in the case of contributions to democrats or republicans, who the heck cares?

I will say that, though, that the pro-democrat oil company list looks pretty pathetic. Shell stations are dirty little holes in the wall compared to Exxon/Mobil and BP, at least here in the northeast they are. And I've never even heard of Phoenix.

Thanks for that! I went to the site, and their lists will be even more helpful.

RETAIL SALES

MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESSES

BEER, WINE

There is a list of just about every industry you want to look into HERE. After you click the industry, you can click on "Top Contributors" and you'll get a list like the ones above.

I doubt I'll carry a list around with me either, but if I am going to make a large purchase I'd rather do it at a place of business where I know I'm not going to contribute to causes with which I disagree. It's good information, whether you choose to use it. I'm just glad to see Wal-Mart on the red side, as I have to shop there waaaaaaay too often.

After I get all my Christmas shopping done at Home Depot, Wal-mart, Target, and Amazon.com today, my husband and I are going to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. On the way home, we'll have to stop to get gas at Exxon and maybe we'll pick up some Coors and Russell Stover's Chocolates for a snack when we get home. Then I'll use Yahoo to send Merry Christmas greetings to all my online friends. :-)

Dear Bed Bath & Beyond,

Frankly, it does not matter to me if a company donates to one political party or the other. Sometimes there are valid reasons for this other that partisan politics.

But what I don't like is when businesses politicize themselves as you have by including yourself on a "Shop Blue" shopping list website.

I was actually just heading out to do some Christmas shopping at your store. But since you decided to be this "blue" list, I will shop elsewhere. And that's too bad. I really do like shopping at your store.

Best Regards,

Is there a way to tell to whom the donations were actually made?

This list may be misleading because some of these firms may have been "paying to play" if the cash was funneled to local candidates/organizations

For example, I was involved in company that would have been listed 100% RAT in 2000. We were all libertarian or conservative but we needed something to happen in San Francisco (i.e. Willie Brown) and so the appropriate donations were made.

I have it on good authority that this is also the case with Gallo wines.

They forgot to mention Sams Club, I know its associated with Walmart but they are afraid of the impact it would have on Costco.
