A statement that he should have no more than one wife does not translate into a statement that he should have AT LEAST ONE WIFE. There's no compulsion for a person to have to be married. As I said before, the concept of celibate priests seems very logical, less dogmatic. Perhaps the church needs to keep the Latin rite with celibate priests and still allow the other rites to have married priests -- hey the church DOES do that. So you can have a Catholic Maronnite priest who's married. If a married man wants to become a Catholic priest, that's fine, not a Latin rite priest. Why do I want the exception? Because I think there is a place for celibate priests and yes, a place for married priests

Of course it doesn't say that he must have one wife ,but that that he may have one wife and no more.

There are numerous fairly obvious reasons for Jesus Christ not marrying; He is unique.
