Keep in prayer for the Vietnam Human Rights Bill. It is presently in the Senate after passing by a wide margin in the House.

If you have any doubt about whether the Bill should pass, take a look at the picture below of an actual re-education camp in Vietnam provided by the Montagnard Foundation. Re-education camps are where believers are typically sent.

Stay tuned as we will post a picture per day over the next 4 days.

Happy Veteran's Day, my friend.

I got lucky, never was shot at.
When we ETS'd no one noticed because we weren't missed to begin with.

Anyway, we noticed.

"New Congress to target NSA [Eavesdropping] Program"

We knew what they were going to do because they told us what they were going to do.
That they're now doing it should not come as any surprise, least of all to those frequenting this place.
They're gonna screwup Sarge, and screwup *big*.
I can *feel* it. ;^)

Now *we* recall when Clintigula blew 50 years of Liberal-Socialist control of both houses, what he & his *minority* were able to do or more importantly not do? How as a minority they successfully bottled up and or derailed everything the *new* majority attempted to do?

Well, Sarge?
Shoe's on the other foot now.
The tricks and shenanigans used by the Clintonistas are still there, & "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander."

As for the Liberal-Socialist quisling mediots intervening again, hurting us any more?
How?
Bring it on, baby. :o)

Let us sit back now & watch what our guys are *really* made of, if they've any political savvy -- whatsoever -- after their 12 year rule.
Shall we? ;^)

Wishful thinking. No one is sent to a re-education camp simply for being Christian.

That sounds like an article of faith on your part...negatives are notoriously difficult to prove.

Oh. That's a MUCH narrower statement than the one you made in post 20. In this narrower category, you may very well be correct.

He's right on that point, Y. State churches are routinely tolerated in some communist states, as they provide a means for the party to keep an eye on people of faith...witness the Russian Orthodox Church under Soviet rule.

June 14, 2006
Vietnamese officials continue to force Montagnard Christians to sign pledges renouncing their religion, despite passage of new regulations last year banning such practices. Authorities in some areas restrict freedom of movement between villages – in particular for religious purposes not authorized by the government – and ban Christian gatherings in many areas unless they are presided over by officially recognized pastors.

More worrisome, the Vietnamese government persists in criminalizing peaceful dissent, unsanctioned religious activity and efforts to seek sanctuary in Cambodia, by arresting and imprisoning Montagnards who engage in those activities. The most harshly treated are evangelical Christians who belong to independent or unregistered house churches and supporters of a non-violent movement for the protection of, and greater control over, ancestral lands.

More than 350 Montagnards have been sentenced to prison since 2001, largely for peaceful political or religious activities. Most have been charged under Vietnam’s Penal Code with vaguely worded national security crimes. These include “undermining the unity policy,” “disrupting security” and “causing public disorder”. More than 60 Montagnards have been imprisoned after being forcibly returned from Cambodia, where they were seeking asylum.

The arrests are ongoing: during 2005 alone, at least 142 people – some of whom had been in pre-trial detention for as much as a year – were sentenced to prison terms of up to 17 years. This is more than double the number imprisoned during the previous year. At least 30 of those sentenced in 2005 had been arrested in Cambodia or near the border areas, whilst trying to seek asylum. They were apprehended by Cambodian police and turned over to Vietnamese authorities without having a chance to make an asylum claim with UNHCR. The report includes an annex listing Central Highland prisoners.

Assuming you are a Vietnam Veteran, which your followup post implies, you know very well that the problems with the Montagnards has nothing to do with Christianity and it is a tangent issue. They would have the same persecution no matter if they are Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, or any other religion. In this case, religion has been mixed with politics and has been used as a cover for anti-government activities. Given the situation, it is easy to see why the government would prohibit free worship under these circumstances. A very close parallel can be drawn between Islam and western nations. Western nations are not interested in prohibiting the worship of Allah, but when those activities advocate anti-government activities, it is a different story.

In the full HRW report, it goes into a lot of these details. Most interesting is the charges brought against these individuals. They are along the lines of, "Disturbing national security and breaking national unity", "Underming national security, organizing demonstrations, inciting refugees to flee", "Causing security and political instability", and other similar charges. I do not wish to get into the merit of these charges or defend the Vietnamese government, but there is clearly more going on than the simple prohibition of Christianity that many on here want to believe.

There is a very strong revolution going on in Vietnam and that is capitalism. The days of the 'socialist' government of Vietnam are numbered and soon, hopefully, there will not be a need for this type of discussion. The only discussion will be how to properly put on trial those who were responsible for the real re-education camps of the 1970s and early 1980s.

"The only discussion will be how to properly put on trial those who were responsible for the real re-education camps of the 1970s and early 1980s."

There's also going to be an interesting discussion about the return of properties siezed by the Communists, particularly in the south. I know that many Viet Khieu talk about suing the government for return of family property once WTO has settled in (many still have their deeds and titles).

But that's just a small part of a larger problem surrounding land-use, title registrations, leaseholds, etc. that the government will eventually have to face.

Posting every item the Liberal-Socialists intend changing and/or reversing is going to keep you one busy man, man. {g}
Does Mrs.Ronnie know about this?

Y'know seems to me I heard our president say -- following the "thumping" -- *one* of the most important items he intended seeing through was seeing to it Vietnam gets on the WTO, or some such.
If my ears heard correct he said he'd be going to Vietnam for an official state visit, also.

In light of this thread, thousands of veterans who died in Vietnam, the 10s of thousands of Vietnamese refugees who fled to pursue their liberty, and without unjustly bashing *anyone* for *anything*??

I'm *compelled* to ask myself one thing & one thing, only.

...what's wrong with that *picture*?

A "job security" kinda thing in the event they ever retook one or both houses, maybe?

Of course c/would the Liberal-Socialists be that spiteful, that petty.
Nawwwww, that kind of behavior would've been reported by our august media. :o)

Besides the Liberal-Socialists, they're farrrrr too busy for petty malarkey like that while executing other more pressing, urgent & important matters of state.

Subject: Congress to cut off funds

Kucinich Calls for Cutting Off Iraq War Funds

"That's the only way we're going to end this war."

Nov 15, 2006

Congressman Kucinich called Wednesday for cutting off funding of the Iraq war, as the surest way out of Iraq. His statements were made in an interview by Democracy Now!'s Amy Goodman.

"I want to say that there's one solution here, and it's not to engage in a debate with the President, who has taken us down a path of disaster in Iraq, but it's for Congress to assume the full power that it has under the Constitution to cut off funds. We don't need to keep indulging in this debate about what to do, because as long as we keep temporizing, the situation gets worse in Iraq.

"We have to determine that the time has come to cut off funds. There's enough money in the pipeline to achieve the orderly withdrawal that Senator McGovern is talking about. But cut off funds, we must. That's the ultimate power of the Congress, the power of the purse. That's how we'll end this war, and that's the only way we're going to end this war.

"We need to shift our direction."

"We have to take a whole new approach. We're spending over $400 billion a year, money that's also needed for healthcare, for education, for job creation, for seniors. We have to take a new look at this. We need to be a strong country, but strength isn't only military. Strength is also the economic strength of the people, their chance to have good neighborhoods. We spend more money than all the countries of the world put together for the military.

"It's time for us to start to shift our vision about who we are as a nation, because if we don't do that -- we're borrowing money right now to wage the war in Iraq. We're borrowing money from China. We're not looking at our trade deficit. We're not looking at conditions, where people are going bankrupt trying to pay their hospital bills. We need to shift our direction, and the direction has to be away from the continued militarization of the United States society."

These pictures, if real, reinforce my belief that this is what we fought for.

Yeah. It's just sickening all the havoc created by the hysterical media, then and now...
