I stand by my statement. I have seen many Communist governments and if they are not totalitarian then they are not Communist. A Communist is a dictatorship period. If you want to live in a Communist government then go to Cuba.

I have good friends living under communism and totalitarian regimes. I know very well what those governments are all about. It is not pretty, but making up lies to further your distain doesn't do anyone any good and just cheapens your point. There are plenty of horror stories I can relate from friends in Laos and Burma, but none involve them being persecuted for their religious beliefs so you would probably not be interested in them.

Thank you for asking.

I understand that the filmakers of "JOURNEY from the FALL" are still looking for a movie distributor, with a targeted 2005 movie release.

Sooner the better, I'd say.

Wow!!! Is history every upside down!! Fact: the former Saigon government instituted a land reform program in 1970 that distributed-FREE-about 2,500,000 acres of rice land to about 800,000 formerly landless tenant farmers. Land tenancy rates went from about 60% to 10% in the Mekong Delta. The communists talked a good 'land reform' program but it was a hoax and cadre were told never, EVER, tell the people about collectivizing land. Why? It will make farmers mad that's why. Both rice acreage and rice production increased between 1965-1975 in S. Viet Nam. After the Hanoi idiots took over rice production plunged, and never equalled 1975 totals until 1985, after which severe malnutrition created high infant mortality rates. The myth that Hanoi-or Mao Tse-tug-or Lenin-"gave land to the peasants is whole cloth monumental deceipt. The opposite occurred. Guess what? I was a dove before I went to Viet Nam, the first time, and became what some would call a "hawk." Why? Easy, the communists are ruthless, lying idiots. Always were, still are.

Apples and oranges. The discussion is about Vietnam and 'communists' oppressing Christians for practicing their faith. I stand by my comments that this is not happening in Vietnam and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. Vietnam is, in many ways, now more westernized than a lot of western countries.

Yes, there is oppression by Muslims in various countries around the world, but that is a different story.

Ad hominem attacks are used in a discussion when one side runs out of facts and must resort to attacking the character of the other person. Thanks for proving me right.

It is not a lack of concern and I am not anti-Christian at all. My point is the story in question, the origin of this thread, is not real. Sorry, nobody in Vietnam is being persecuted simply for religious beliefs. Yes bad things happen there, and in Laos, but it is not simply because someone is a Christian.

You are saying that if it wasn't for Christianity, the Montagnards would be left alone by the authorities? It is only because of their religion that they are being 'persecuted'? Give me a break. I have no idea if this report is accurate or not, but I know there is a lot more to the story than just this.

Your profile says you live in Nevada. I am living in Thailand. That should be a strong hint to you that I know what is going on in this part of the world. I have spent time in Laos, Vietnam, and Burma this year. How about you?

Yes there are human rights violations in Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Malaysia, and even Thailand. Stating that they are simply because of religious persecution completely trivializes what these people are going through. If you really cared about these people, you would care about all the people involved in the abuses and not simply 'Christians'.

I am curious why the site you are so fond of doesn't mention persecution for other reasons. Maybe because it does not fit into their narrow agenda?

I can't believe what I am reading. "are the picutures real?" Where have you guys been living? Under a rock?
The pictures of torture and unhumane treatment of another human being have nothing to do with John Kerry, the Democrats, or the Republicans. They are pictures of torture.
Unless you are a Vietnamese or know of one, you wouldn't bellieve that the VC had put almost all who had anything to do with the old regime in their so called "reeducation" camps. These were prisons. They didn't just imprisoned war criminals, high ranking officers, they imprisoned everybody.
My cousins and I grew up without our fathers. My father and 4 of his brothers were imprisoned. Two were in for 10 years each.
My father was a captain, but he didn't kill anyone. He was a professor at the Polwar college in DALAT. They imprisoned him for 4 years. His last days were spent in that box you saw in the picture. Starved and beaten. After 30 days, they stangled him with their bare hands. They didn't even burry him. He was tossed out into the woods!!!!

All of you who have never seen war, went to war, nor lived through a war shouldn't be to quick to jump on the Bush wagon...

"Unless you are a Vietnamese or know of one, you wouldn't believe"

I believe it. And I am deeply shamed that my country deserted its ally.

At the same time, I have been advocating war against Islam since well before the first Gulf War. My reason for supporting it was perhaps expressed best by Dwight Eisenhower: "Americans, indeed all free men, remember that in the final choice a soldier's pack is not so heavy a burden as a prisoner's chains."
