I've never understood the whining about FReepers being "fleeced". I contribute quarterly, and see with my own eyes every day what I am paying for. Obviously I think my money's well spent or I'd stop contributing. Even if Jim was profiting a million bucks a quarter running this place, SO WHAT? We all buy stuff everyday from companies whose senior executives are getting paid loads of money to run those companies. Why aren't the whiners whining about McDonald's and Starbucks and Sears and Home Depot and Holiday Inn "fleecing" their customers?

In fact, I wish it were true! I wish he'd make GOBS of money; which of us would have stuck it out as long as he had, all the while being attacked by malcontents and sociopaths who have accused him of everything, up to and including losing his mind! (You know, "Jim's going crazy, so "we" need to "take over" FR; I, of course, am the person to do it!")
I don't give ONE DAMN what he does with his money as long as this thing TURNS ON every single day......
Call me crazy, but I have yet to see the "virtual gun" that is forcing people to 1) Come here or 2) donate money!

This history of FR, is anything but boring. Many of us had never heard about how FR came into existance or the trials and tribulations during the early days.
Free Republic is a big forum, but not one iota bigger than the man who founded and runs it.
I would reccommend you take a two by four to such critters rather than a cane. Getting a message through a numb skul is no easy task.
