Reminds me of the stupid rules I've heard about that the Feds have imposed on the Navy concerning how they remove barnacles from their boats, ships, etc. The way the environmental laws are set up, if the boats are removed from the water to have the barnacles removed, the barnacles must be swept up and treated according to assorted regulations and disposed of in a proper way - presumably in some landfill, etc, with all the proper and tedious paperwork to account for everything used, quantities obtained and so on. They are not allowed to wash the barnacles off the docks and into the water.
If, however, the boats are cleaned while still IN the water, it is perfectly OK for the barnacle and cleaning materials to remain in the water.
So, it's just easier to leave the friggin boats in the water tied up to the docks and clean them - but it requires that this be done in all weather conditions when neccessary, which means it can be darn chilly. So the silly-arse rule has no benefit for the environment at all.
Your government at work...
Another thing- at SERE school the idea is to train people in how to avoid or survive captivy should the individual ever be unfortunate enough to be in a situation where he needs to escape, or worse, if captured needs to survive, etc. But if you attend, you must not demonstrate your survival skills by actually trapping and eating a quail or something. Oh, no. They're protected...

The Defense Department, which controls 28 million acres of land across the nation that it uses for combat exercises and weapons testing, has been moving on a variety of fronts to reduce requirements that it safeguard the environment on that land. Giving this a ping for a win over the 'spotted owl'.

"The whole thrust of these exemptions," the staff member added, "is to remove any kind of independent authority from the states, Environmental Protection Agency, water authority or from a citizen suit that would get them to sample, identify and clean up the contamination." Nope. The idea is to have the best training we can so we can defend this country in the most efficient manner possible. If we can't defend the country then the whole idea of environmentalism is a dead issue. It dies if we do, you terrorist-loving treehugging squirrelworshippers. All your fake concern for the environment goes down the toilet if the military isn't there to protect your lily white bottoms and protest orgies.

This is a long thread to read: http://breederville.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=78
But it lends great insight to the 'animal rights' movement. Especially the 175+ PDF doc I have threaded in to the investigation that was done in NJ. NJ is not the only focus. But the report can easily be broadened out to what is going on in other states.

The irony of all of that is that the military areas- even if they are also ranges- are more beneficial to wildlife and plantlife than the lawns and neighborhoods of all the granola-crunching east and left coast city-dwellers and out there.

You are preaching to the choir here.
I know the benefits of the MIL to everything across the board. Even the hunters too. Many do not even realize all the meat that is donated by hunters.

it is the Pentagon's role to sustain the national defense missionYep. So leave them the heck alone and let 'em do their job. If the EPA or whoever wants to B&M, let THEM do the stinking cleanup!
Thanks for the pingaroo Cal!!
