Top Stories of 2004: Christian Group Determined to Warn Public About Disney's 'Gay Days'

Year In Review: Entertainment Industry

(Originally published on May 25, 2004)

A Christian activist group has developed a three-point strategy to warn unsuspecting families coming to Orlando, Florida, about the very family-unfriendly homosexual pride festival known as "Gay Days at Walt Disney World."

The Christian Action Network (CAN) is engaging in an all-out effort to inform families, school groups, and others of what they can expect from the homosexual event long before they enter the so-called Magic Kingdom. The group plans to use literature, road signs, and even a mobile advertisement to get the word out about the offensive and often X-rated goings on at the Walt Disney World theme park during Gay Days, which CAN says is scheduled for June 3-6, 2004.

Martin Mawyer, president of CAN, calls the public information campaign "a victory for unsuspecting families who do not want their children exposed to homosexual nudity, fondling, groping, kissing, and sex acts." And, he adds, "it is a defeat for the Disney Company, which refuses to notify them."

Mawyer notes that CAN has been asking Disney officials for six years to warn unsuspecting families and groups arriving during Gay Days, but the company has refused. Now, he says, since Disney has refused to issue a warning, CAN will.

In order to educate the public about Gay Days at Walt Disney World, the Christian group will take a three-pronged approach. The effort involves posting large road signs around the Orlando area that read: "Warning! Gay Days at Disney in June"; having a van drive up and down Interstate 4 with a similar warning and the specific dates of the homosexual celebration; and distributing pamphlets at the Orlando International Airport informing families about the kinds of things to which families and children would be exposed in public areas of the park during the homosexual celebration.

The pamphlet gives a detailed listing of some of the decadence actually scheduled for this year's Gay Days, including a homosexual parade, a "Gay and Lesbian Youth Meeting," poolside and "Foam" parties, and events described as "Taboo Magic Hour," "Lesbo-a-Go-Go," and "Pixie Flix" for "homo-Nuerotic fun." The literature also notes that extreme nudity and sex acts are to be expected at many of these events, and tells potential visitors to be aware that anyone wearing red clothing may be taken for a participant in the homosexual celebration.

"Our warning program will definitely be more effective and sweeping than anything Disney would volunteer to do," CAN's president says. In fact, he feels the information campaign is an even better solution than the company posting warning signs at the entrance of the park.

"The strategy of Christian Action Network will warn these families long before they reach Disney entrance gates," Mawyer says, "and it will give thousands of families an opportunity to revise their plans in Orlando."

CAN has been working for a number of years to raise awareness about Gay Days and to advocate for an end to the anti-family event. Members of the Christian group operate an additional activism site called StopGayDays.com, which contains links to shocking photographic evidence of the public indecency that characterizes these events and a listing of similar Gay Days activities at theme parks and resorts all over North America.

Last August the group released an exclusive original video recording called "Gay Days at Disney Gone Wild!" at a national press conference in Washington, DC. The 12-minute video documented the first six years of Disney's Gay Days celebration, depicting graphic footage of public nudity, drug use, homosexual kissing, fondling, and sex acts -- and even Disney cast members engaging in homoerotic performances. Also documented on the tape is testimony from a family that witnessed an explicit pornographic film shown on a Disney Cruise-Line bus. CAN has continued its efforts to warn the public by presenting the video to local media, pastors, church and civic leaders.

Mawyer says it is unfortunate that the group has had to embarrass Disney by publicly showing the tape, but the pro-family advocate says the company has no business allowing its name to be attached to Gay Days.

If I lived in the area, I would want an enhanced law enforcement presence during that week to ticket and arrest any indecent behavior.

Good, we stopped doing "The Mouse" five years ago. No danger of my family stumbling into this at Disney. Hopefully it will prevent others from an embarrassing encounter.

Is this really the biggest news story of 2004?

Me too. It is a shame, but I just had to take a stand. If they want to be a porno park then advertise it as such, don't pose as a family friendly place.

there are other smaller, less publicized "gay days" all around the country, at other theme parks. "GAY DAYS" is its own organization, not neccessarily funded or promoted by Disney itself, although Disney certainly isn't going out of its way to distance itself from the organization, thats for sure. There's no such thing as bad publicity, to them. It just happens to choose Walt Disney World, one of the largest theme parks in the world, for its largest meeting. It happens at Paramount Parks such as Kings Island, for instance. My roommate from college happened to be there one saturday, with his brother. Wearing a red shirt. He saw the large amounts of same sex pairs all wearing red. He promptly went into a store and bought a different shirt to distinguish himself.

We unknowingly took the family to Disneyland on the 1st weekend in Oct. and it turned out to be gay days. We were infuriated, luckily our children were too young to notice any thing. We cut out trip a little short and vowed to never visit Disney again unless they change their policy.

No. The re-election of your President was the biggest news story of 2004. May God give him wisdom and strength to fulfill his tasks as the leader of the Free World in 2005 as well!

I will respectfully disagree.

Disney is perfectly within their rights to operate their business in ant fashion which its management chooses (note Roy Disney Jr.’s actions trying to depose the current CEO).

Of course I also applaud the efforts of the Christian Action Network to inform unsuspecting parents of the horrors occurring at what is at most times a family friendly theme park.

Disney should, if they insist on having this abomination yearly in their park, make every effort to inform their patrons of these events. An informed guest is a happy guest.

I understand that Disney is not the instigator of these proceedings. However, I would differer a bit with you on their innocence in the event.
In the past when you saw "The Mouse" as a host of an event you could count on it to be a place where you could take your family. Lewd and pornographic behavior would not be tolerated. The participants would be asked to leave because their behavior is not indicative of the clientele.
For example, I would never take my family to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. It is well advertised, and well known what kinds of behavior is acceptable. I have no beef with the City of New Orleans because it is well publicized. We just avoid the area at those times.
My beef with Disney is that they refuse to warn unsuspecting families that they may not want to bring their small children to the park for porno days.

GE

I'm not so sure that CAN's method of warning people will be effective. It seems like they are targeting people who are already in Orlando.

Most people come from out of state to visit the Orlando area. By then they've invested thousands of dollars in tickets, hotel reservations and airline transportation. Disney's new ticket system has tickets that expire (unless you pay extra for a non-expiration option).

Suggestion: Have a promotion - give away a Disney trip for a family, provided that they will accept an annual e-mail message informing them of the Gay Days at Disney.

I think you are all missing what is really important. Disney owns ABC and their news division is one of the biggest main stream media slime liars there is. That is the real reason they should be boycotted.

If I could give some (non-gay) love to the mouse: What is Disney supposed to do? They can't advertise it's Gay Day because that's not the image they want to cultivate. They can't warn people because they'd be sued. They can and should step up security and prevent any lewd public behavior. I'm sure if they did that, however, they'd get sued for some reason.

CAN has a good idea to warn families but I wish it would also organize Pray Days or something where a bunch Christians descended on the park to pray and play. Then, other groups would have to worry about encountering a bunch of church-people at the park and they might change their vacation plans.

Disney will not get any more of my business as long as they cultivate and promote American faggotry. No Disneyland, no movies, no toys. Nothing.

Walt Disney would turn over in his grave!

When I went to Disney's animal park, there were beer stands.
Now, that's fine when your going to a baseball game, but Disney World was supposed to be for the average American family. That's what Walt Disney wanted it to be. He wanted an affordable Family friendly theme park, that was his dream.

Suggestion: In addition to the regular pitch Disney ,on their web site, fliers, adverts., etc. , should add an "Important Days" list:

- New Year's Celebration Day (date)
- Grandparents " "Day (date)
- Mickey's Birthday Day (date)
- St. Patrick's Celebration Day (date)
- Gay Pride Day (date)
- 4th of July Celebration Day (date)
- Summertime Fun with Goofy & Friends Day (date)
etc.,etc., etc.

It would be there, listed, somewhat buried, but listed. Those guys couldn't shouldn't object since it treated as any other "Important Day" -- not singled out, not have attention drawn to it, etc. And the opposing side couldn't shouldn't object b/c said day and date IS shown.

So do Mickey, Donald, Pluto and the gang join in with the gay activities?

Do Bert and Ernie come out of the closet...or are they even Disney characters?

I am continually reminded these days of the Scripture about how people will flaunt their sin in the streets.

What will the homosexuals do now that red state means no homosexual marriages? Red t-shirts still the uniform for "gay"daze?

Seriously, a florida school district official actually scheduled children to go up during that event. The event was canceled, the children disapointed. (he was a "gay" teacher and part of Glsen)

This is going to be a bigger fight in 2005. I predict the homosexuals will not get violent in fight back. They don't like negative exposure.

You are incorrect. Disney gives these homsoexual groups permission to use the disney logos and symbols to PR this event. This is sanction. (They are zelous in preventing other groups from publicising using Disney logos and symbols by sending cease and decist letters)

Disney gives special "parties" for the homosexuals who use touroperator "gay" arragements. Again sanctioning homo-trolling festivities.

Disney KNOWS when this is, they have ABSOLUTE control and are in NO WAY innocent. Disney should simply WARN PEOPLE!

If they go to the trouble to give away free t-shirts to unsuspecting families who wore red in the past, they can put a warning on a calendar. (will there be a new color this year or will red state red still be the color de jour?)

It is a business but there is no future for catering to the homosexuals in a CHILDREN'S theme park.
