BECAUSE CHIEF JUSTICE WILLIAM REHNQUIST'S daughter was derelict in her duties when she was Inspector General of HHS. How can he therefore, not recuse himself from any appeals that go to the US Supreme Court?

Terri is at Hospice due to Medicaid fraud and abuse. His daughter was charged with rooting it out.

THOUSANDS of people wrote to HHS and the USAG about Terri and nobody got a reply. Terri was starved during his daughter's tenure at HHS.

The family has plenty of attorneys who finally got to meet Terri in person. They noted that Terri is alert and aware of her surroundings. Jeb Bush has plenty of attorneys.

It's not the number or quality of attorneys. It is JUDICIAL ACTIVISM RUN AMOK.

I tend to disagree with this analysis of the Supreme Court and Terri's Law. It's not going to be about Terri. It's just about whether Jeb gets to have a real trial, submit evidence and do discovery.

From World Net Daily link to Reuters.

By Deborah Charles

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Chief Justice William Rehnquist expressed concern on Saturday that criticism of federal judges had increased in recent years, particularly for "judicial activism."

"Criticism of judges has dramatically increased in recent years, exacerbating in some respects the strained relationship between the Congress and the federal judiciary," he said in his 2004 Year-End Report on the Federal Judiciary.

"Although arguments over the federal judiciary have always been with us, criticism of judges, including charges of activism, have in the eyes of some taken a new turn in recent years," said Rehnquist, who has been absent from the Supreme Court since he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October.

He noted that in his annual report last year, he had criticized Congress for not seeking input from the judiciary before it approved a law aimed at forcing judges to follow tougher sentencing guidelines.

"At the same time, there have been suggestions to impeach federal judges who issue decisions regarded by some as out of the mainstream," he said.

"And there were several bills introduced in the last Congress that would limit the jurisdiction of the federal courts to decide constitutional challenges to certain kinds of government action."

He gave no details about what he said others have called "judicial activism."

In November, outgoing Attorney General John Ashcroft -- who has been dealt several court defeats over U.S. terrorism policies -- issued an unusual criticism of what he called judges' second-guessing of the president's decisions.

Ashcroft said the courts had encroached upon "some of the most fundamental aspects of the president's conduct of the war on terrorism."

Rehnquist, a conservative who has served on the top court for more than 30 years, noted that criticism of judges and judicial decisions was "as old as our republic."

"No doubt the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court, will continue to encounter challenges to its independence and authority because of dissatisfaction with particular decisions or the general direction of its jurisprudence," he said.

Rehnquist, 80, made no reference to his health except to thank well-wishers for their support. He underwent a tracheotomy in October and has been working from home while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

FV SAYS: It's troublesome that Rehnquist RECENTLY defended judicial activism in this year end statement.

But why is she in a hospice now? Hasn't it been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Terri isn't terminally ill, therefore, she should not be in a hospice at this time.

Well, a case can be made that Terri Schindler-Schiavo suffers from a life threatening illness known as Michael Schiavo-itis...

I guess that may be the real answer. The Gruesome George Greer the Ghoulish Grim Reaper Judge has his mind made up that Terri will die of starvation and dehydration and nothing is going to stop him from carrying out her death sentence...

...and in Florida, there aren't enough good and decent judges to overturn Greer's mindless and heartless decisions.

Every single judge on the Florida Supreme Court voted against Terri's Law. This is the same State Supreme Court that if they had their way, AlGore would have won the election in 2000 by allowing that ridiculous recount to continue until enough pregnant, dimpled and hanging chads were found in Gore's favor to assist him in his attempt to steal the election.

The Florida State Supreme Court was wrong then and they are wrong now concerning Terri's Law.

Liberals stink. Oh how I despise liberals. They are a curse upon this land.

Since Rosalyn and Jimmy Carter are such good friends with Michael "I am a fat, fat, fatty, fatso" Moore, why not write to him as well and ask for his help?

They sat next to him during the Democratic National Convention last year and seemed to enjoy his company. Maybe Rosalyn can put in a good word for Terri with Michael Moore and he can produce another factual documentary along the lines of Fahrenheit 9-11 for Terri.

Fat chance, pardon the expression, just like Rosalyn offering to lend a hand to help Terri's cause.

One would think that the NOW gang and the ACLU would come to Terri's defense as well, but they haven't. Both of those organizations receive the majority of their funding from liberals and democrats and they, especially the ACLU, are helping the "merchants of death" (Felos, Bushnell, and Michael Schiavo). Does it make sense that Rosalyn Carter would go against the grain of the democratic party line and refuse to follow liberal democrat mind numbed robot marching orders by becoming an advocate FOR LIFE and supporter for Terri Schindler-Schiavo?

Having written this, quite humbly, I do not think THIS to be the case. Who voted against Terri's law in the Florida State legislature in October of 2003 while Terri was being starved and dehydrated to death?

Without giving it away, I'll just write the majority of the opponents for Terri's Law in the Florida State legislature had a pesky little "D" next to their names.

Liberal democrats bite the big one. I can't stand 'em.

Thank you. Everyone concerned should read this article in its entirety. Those who are just now learning about Terri's story should dig into the archives assembled by Free Republic, and at Terri's web site.

I can dig in the archives all day long but that doesn't explain why she is still in a hospice without a terminal illness...

Floriduh Voter. What does Ron Panzer have to say about this?

My questions specifically are as follows:

Are there other patients in Hospice facilities who are not terminally ill? Is Terri the only patient in a hospice who is not terminally ill?

Does Free Republic save on operating expenses by not allowing an edit feature?

Maybe it's a good thing. Lying liberals can't go back and change their lies after they have been caught in yet another one.

What I find interesting in this whole case is that not
ONE Judge has bothered to visit Terri to see for themselves
how she is progressing. She's kept a prisoner in that
room - hasn't been out of it for ages and Nona sees
her without Michaels approval.

Why hasn't the press taken the bull by the horns and
got an order (court) so they can relay the truth to the
public?

Re: Janet Rehnquist. Bump for a search reminder.

"Notably, a March 2003 report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General (DHHS-IG), Janet Rehnquist, found that just 12 percent of FDA scientists were completely confident that "labelling decisions adequately address key safety concerns."

And as always---praying for freedom for Terri.

FDA Experts Had Concerns

http://www.mwc.com/NewsfeedArticle.cfm?NewsID=7916

"The survey was conducted as part of the inspector general's inquiry, but only parts of it were included in the report. The dissenting voices of some FDA scientists were not generally represented in the study by former inspector general Janet Rehnquist."

"There have been about 20 major staff changes since Rehnquist came aboard. All six of her deputies have resigned or been forced out. Many of them spoke to CBS News, but said they felt too intimidated to appear on camera."
