The death penalty is too easy for Scott Peterson, who should be forced to rot in prison for years reliving his crime, his former mistress believes.
Amber Frey, the willowy blond masseuse whose steely testimony about his web of deceptions sealed his fate, told NBC's Matt Lauer she would have preferred for Peterson to be sentenced to life in prison instead.
"I felt life [in prison] gives him every day to live with what has happened," she said in her first interview since her ex-lover's conviction. The interview also came just days before her memoir "Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson" is to be released.
"It's almost to me death is so much simpler ... You know that he doesn't have to live with that every day," Frey told Lauer in an interview scheduled to air on Monday and Tuesday on "Today" and "Dateline."
She became romantically involved with Peterson just weeks before he killed his eight-months pregnant wife Laci and dumped her body into San Francisco Bay.
Frey stayed out of the spotlight since her stunning admission at a 2003 press conference that she had been dating Peterson at the time of his wife's disappearance - and that he had lied to her about not being married.
Court testimony later revealed that when she realized her new boyfriend was the husband of the famously missing Modesto, Calif., woman, Frey agreed to help police by secretly taping phone conversations with Peterson. Those tapes annihilated Peterson's credibility during his trial, as he told her whopper after whopper while police searched for his missing wife.
Frey told NBC her "stomach was turning" as she waited for Peterson to call her. "I was shaking," she said. "My hands were just sweaty."
She also described watching Peterson doing TV interviews shortly after she went public with their affair.
She thought to herself "that he was just a piece of work ... There isn't any truth that comes out of this man's mouth. And I just saw him, you know, as this compulsive liar, I mean, pathological liar."
I think knowing that you will be put to death, eventually, would be rather hard to live with.
Peterson will die of old age unless an inmate kills him. I doubt there will ever be another execution in California.
She's a "willowy blond masseuse" and was his "girlfriend?" Yeah right - she was probably just giving him 'happy endings' after the massages, which is prostitution. No wonder he wanted to hang with her so much.
Rot. Let Scott fry.
I take it the author is willing to pony up the bucks to keep him in prison. 30K/year, in CA more likey 40K/year. About the same price as Harvard and MIT.
I've changed my mind about the death penalty. Since we all die, and many of us not as easily as some convicts, I'd rather he face a life time of misery and hopelessness, unless we could go back to public hangings. Lethal injection is just too damn easy.
He'll have 30 some years to live with what he did. Plus, he'll have 30 some years to think about dying.
Now we have this extended one-night stand writing a book and being "Celebritized" by the MSM. Meanwhile, her attorney, Gloria Allreid has been hanging on to this publicity gravy Train with both hands. Tune in next week for the latest installment.....
Life would be a good sentence for somebody with a conscience....I have the feeling Scaught feels no remorse over the killings, just over getting arrested and convicted...
Aren't her 15 minutes up yet?
>Yeah right - she was probably just giving him 'happy >endings' after the massages, which is prostitution
He went to a Christmas Party with her and even hung out with her kid. He spun her a lie about his wife being dead and that he traveled out of town alot. While she is most niave, that doesn't make her a prostitute and you should be ashamed of yourself for calling her that.
Why don't you go do some research on the case before you go casting judgement.
This is California...he'll have 30 years of marriage proposals...
There's a lot of people who are licensed massage therapists like Amber Frey...it's not a prostitution job....
Some of them are. And going by Amber Frey's background, aren't both of her kids born out of wedlock? She doesn't seem to be someone with alot of common sense.
I hope his boyfriend doesn't get mad.
She obviously doesn't have a lot of common sense but to brand her as a prostitute is a little mean. I think her problem is, like with many women, they are far too trusting of men. They are willing to give themselves to someone who is not trustworthy.
How could she be niave, her child's father a married former customer. Reasearch is great!!!
"This is California...he'll have 30 years of marriage proposals..."
He probably got sold for cigarettes before he hit the prison door...
Ping)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Women are far, far too trusting with men, absolutely. But I happen to know for a fact that some masseuses like to earn a little extra money by giving a hand job at the end of the massage. I guess she could be like Bill Clinton and claim that hand jobs aren't really sex.
I just love it when people post things like this; it makes them so much easier to recognize the depth of their knowledge about things going on in the world around them.
It also points out who should have credibility on this forum and who shouldn't.
His cell will have a nice view of the bay where he dumped their bodies.
Let's see if he can "live" with that.
And yet here you are, on this thread; how should we interpret that?
Some of them aren't.
I see you're yet another poster who engages type before brain.
The thing is, no one really knows the truth in all of this, so I think all of these statements can be made. We'll never know what really happened, IMO.
Exactly right.
Well, so far, she has proven truthful in everything SHE has said, which is more than we can say for the rest of this group.
Come on, Howlin. We need these chaps to make the rest of us look so good ;)
It has been a relief not to even think of Scott..The jerks who slam Amber don't realize how much she did to help prosecute that murderer..Through her we got to hear Scott reveal his narcissistic pathological lying self.
And some people can engage in lively, fun debate without being a jerk to other freepers.
And some people can't.
If you think calling a woman you don't even know a prostitute is "lively, fun debate" then perhaps you're at the wrong web site.
I can handle myself quite well without having to weed through these juvenile responses.
Scott has two people waiting for him, and the only way that wait will end is with Scott being held to account ASAP.
Licensed massage therapists fight this kind of image constantly. They are medically trained, have a code of ethics, and do a lot of good. I have a dear friend who is a massage therapist and it hurts to read the negative, nasty comments of an honorable profession.
Yes, anyone can be a masseuse. But state-licensed massage therapists like Amber are not in that category.
You are right about the marriage proposals. I read he gets lots of fan mail. Plus, Geragos has a website where you can donate money for his legal defense on the appeal.
I'd like to know how much money has been donated.
After celebrating President Bush's win I thought "Okay, one down, now just give me a "guilty" on Scott and I won't ask for anything more this year".
I assume you listened to the phone tapes and read the transcripts?
I would have rather he was given life. With life he would be in the general population and would be dead withing 3 years. There was already one attempt before the verdict.
Now he goes to a special place where he almost can't get killed by other prisoners and the whole deal will cost us around another 10 million.
I would rather he was executed for free in prison by inmates.
I hear you.
Scott's "special place" in prison, however, means that he will be looking through bars at that bay where Laci's head lies for the rest of his miserable life.
Hell hath no fury as a woman scorned.
Please show me where I called Amber Frey a prostitute, because I can't find it. I said some masseusses give handjobs at the end of the massage and some don't. I also said Amber Frey doesn't have alot of common sense.
Hostile people are the ones who lose credibility. People who can't debate without being insulting come off sounding like 5th graders.
As if Geragos wouldn't have used the prostitute angle, were it true. You'd think Scotty would have mentioned that to his attorney.
A college friend of mine married a masseuse who is very Christian, also with little common sense (as evidenced by the fact that she married the guy). Is she a prostitute also?
Interpret as you wish.
I don't believe he was ever her client.
I believe she once stated about her children born out of wedlock, what would people prefer that she abort them?
I am guessing by your comment that if the death penatly could be administered quickly you would favor that. You seem not to like the long expensive wait. Me neither. I would have been ok with either sentence.
Oh, weasel words. You didn't use the word "prostitute," but, then, you didn't have to:
But I'll be glad to show you what you DID say.
She's a "willowy blond masseuse" and was his "girlfriend?" Yeah right - she was probably just giving him 'happy endings' after the massages, which is prostitution. No wonder he wanted to hang with her so much.
You're right. Years ago when I was still working, I had a male friend that used to go out of town on business. When in his hotel room he always called in a masseuse from a local company for a massage in his hotel room. It usually ended in a hand job. Not always, though. He said that that was part of the excitement, not knowing if they were going to do it or not.
AND:
There's a lot of people who are licensed massage therapists like Amber Frey...it's not a prostitution job....
Some of them are. And going by Amber Frey's background, aren't both of her kids born out of wedlock? She doesn't seem to be someone with alot of common sense.
And just so you'll remember, I never make claims I can't back up.
I don't like the 10 million dollar costs of appeals, no.
The remarkable thing is I think Scott Peterson still has higher favorability ratings than Tom McClintock...
Go figure.
