Sen. Leahy Makes It Official, Bush Has Mishandled The Tsunami Crisis
CNN | 12/30/04 | Me

Posted on 12/30/2004 1:20:20 PM PST by Reaganesque

I was just watching CNN's coverage of the tsunami disaster and they had Patrick Leahy on commenting about it. He went to great lengths to state that the President had waited to long to make a public statement about the crisis and that our initial offer of $35 million dollars was not nearly enough. To her credit, the interviewer said that the White House was claiming that the President's critics were unwilling to give him credit for anything he did to which Leahy responded that he would give credit when credit was due.

They still don't get it. It is precisely this kind of behavior that, in good part, lost them the election. They just can't get past their blind hatred of this man. They are proving, again and again that they have nothing to offer apart from hate and rage. Pathetic.

I am surprised Leaky hasn't released the info about when and were our carriers will arrive in the area.

Do you suppose leaky will pass this information on to the jihadists?

G.W. has been elevated to Emperor of the World! Cool.

Instead of a State of the Union Address, it will now be known as the State of the Global Union Address. G.W. will personally be flown to each disaster area, where he will ceremonially shovel the first pile of dirt before rescue operations may begin. He shall have his hair coiffed, botox injected and orange tan applied before appearing on camera to display a perfect solitary tear to make sure people know "he feels their pain". He shall send our military door to door across the globe to shake down every last penny for disaster relief.

And as his First official act as Emperor, Bush will decress Senator Leahy have his mouth muzzled.

If I were asking the question:

"So Senator, you say President Bush mishandled our response. Now, how do you grade President Clinton's response to the first World Trade Center attack in 1993, when he never visited the site?"

Senator Leahy was remarkably restrained. It is quite clear to any reasonable person that this whole earthquake/tsunami situation would never have happened if George W. Bush had not been re-elected.

The good news is; Michael Moore will now have the basis for a new documentary film of major proportions, in which the President will be seen vacationing for days on end in Crawford, Texas while tens of thousands perished.

Could it possibley be that President Bush was waiting to give Kofi Annan the opportunity to speak first in order to give the UN credibility? Could it be that after Annan dropped the ball, that Bush was forced to step up and speak first?

Did Leahy recognize the generosity of Americans? Shameless politicization of the issue. However, his comments do allow for another opportunity for individuals to be generous:

Catholic Relief Services (Designate contribution to Tsunami disaster fund on menu)

The Salvation Army South Asia Disaster Fund

World Vision Tsunami Relief Fund

Baptist World Aid

The democrats are willing and able to use any death to use to further their political gain. From the single death of a senator killed in a plane crash with his son turnimg the wake into a campaign rally, to the 1,000 deaths rallying cry last summer, to the Florida hurricanes being tied to the U.S. not signing the Kyoto Accord, to the `not personaly signing the letters', to the disaster is SE Asia.

My God, they are a disgusting piece of crap.

The tide water had not receeded before the enviromentalist were claiming the the 9.0 quake was due to building freeways and pumping oil causing a weakening in the sperical structure of the earth.

If GW had delivered a `I feel your pain ' speech imediately after the event and had the Indian and Pacific fleets already at the docs, these same demonrats would call it grandstaning for political purpose. They would all call it undermining the U.N. Oh, wait, they are doing that as I write this.

We are not moving fast enough with sufficient money ($30 + Million. Kofi is meeting next week with E.U. leaders to see what he should do with their $14Million.

We should just ignore the demonrats and their media mouthpieces. All reputable (repulican) interviews should be going to conservative talk shows and newpapers. Ignore the others.

Leave it to the loser Democrats to try to turn this terrible event into a political issue.

I guess Leaky Leahy, aka Senator Depends, thinks that if Bill Clinton was still President, he would have lifted up his hands like Moses and stopped the water from hitting land.

I was sufficiently disgusted that I went to the Senate web page and sent this letter to the "Honorable" Senator:

Dear Sir,

I have never been more apalled in my life than when I heard you on CNN stating that the President of the United States had acted to slowly in the face of the tragedy that is still unfolding in the Indian Ocean region. Of all the low, cheap shots the Democrats have ever sunk to, this is the worst.

You know full well that $35 million is only a starting figure. You know full well that the United States will do every last thing that you "reccommended" in your letter to the President The US has always done so in such disasters and will continue to do so now. When all is said and done, the US will have lead the way in the relief efforts in time, effort and money. We always have. You know this to be true, so for you to try to score partisan political points off of a tragedy of this magnitude is beneath contempt for not only a Senator of these United States but for any sound minded human being.

For once, could you please put aside your party's interests and think of the greater good here? More than 100,000 people are dead and it is feared that as many as a million may be dead and that's just from the wave itself. Sir, the ends do not justify the means. Find your route back to power somewhere else. This is not a time for politics. I appeal to your basic humanity, sir. Please drop the politics and just help.

Yours,

Mark Dixon
