Jesse Jackson: ‘We Will Not Faint’ [Ultra BARF Alert!]
Newsweek ^ | Dec. 30, 2004 | Susannah Meadows

Posted on 12/30/2004 2:00:43 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Ohio officials concluded their recount of the presidential vote last Tuesday—reaffirming President George W. Bush’s victory. But the state’s election woes aren’t over yet. As bloggers continue to spin conspiracy theories about a victory stolen from Democratic candidate John Kerry, the Rev. Jesse Jackson plans to lead a Monday rally in Columbus to protest alleged voting irregularities. He warmed up with NEWSWEEK’s Susannah Meadows.

NEWSWEEK:What’s the matter with Ohio?
Rev. Jesse Jackson: In Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Youngstown, Cleveland, where I was, you had blacks standing in line for six hours in the rain. That’s a form of voter suppression.

Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell says that machines were allotted based on turnout in past years, and that he didn’t realize they’d need more machines until it was too late.
He had to know it because registration was up. Blackwell may have had to deliver for Bush and [Vice President Dick] Cheney and he got a lighter rap than [former Florida Secretary of State Katherine] Harris got. But Ohio may have been more stacked than Florida was.

So you think Blackwell stole the election for Bush?
It was under his domain to have enough machines; the machine calibration, tabulation issue. You could rig the machines. We have reason to believe it was rigged.

What is your evidence?
Based on distrusting the system, lack of paper trails, the anomaly of the exit polls. In Ukraine, there’s an exit poll gap, they say, “Let’s have another election.”

Have you been in touch with John Kerry about the issue? Does he share your concerns?
His lawyers are now involved in a minimal way. We are appealing to him to get involved. We think it should be certified provisionally, until there can be a forensic investigation of these machines, and until there’s a random recount.

Well if it was only blacks then it would be outrageous, but if everyone had to stand in the same line, then deal with it like a grown-up.

"In Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Youngstown, Cleveland, where I was" aren't these all strongholds of the Democrats, and don't they have Democrat election commissars?

seems Jesse needs to talk to his own.

"you had blacks standing in line for six hours in the rain. That’s a form of voter suppression."
That must be a very interesting form of rain, so that the whites (and Asians) somehow remained dry under it while also standing in lines to vote. There was a cartoon with similarly selective and localized rain, with the caption "You must be a Democrat".
Or maybe the secret is in the plain view, and is called "an umbrella". Should anyone not knowing what an umbrella is (or not qualified to use one) be eligible to vote?
I submit this last question to FR for learned discussion.

Who pays this guy, and why haven't they arrested him yet on tax evasion charges or something? Back child support due? He has a half-dozen children with various women, does he not? Surely one of those women is upset with him about something!

What a fine Role Model for young black men.

There were whites standing in a line for just as long in my precinct. Yes ... I was a white man standing for more than 5 hours to vote. It wasn't raining, but it was threatening to rain. So .. what THAT a form of voter suppression???? Of course not! I'm white and I'm from Texas!!!!!!

Jackson is certifiable.

What could any person possibly have done with those six hours waiting in line to vote, that would have been nearly as important?

If the right to vote isn't worth six hours of a persons time, maybe they have their priorities mixed up.

That's all.
It's the republicans fault the Arabs captured them and sold them into slavery.
It's the republicans fault they have to work now.
It's the repulicans fault that they cannot give more to the Rainbow coalition.
It's the republicans fault.....

Of course not - read it again.

you had blacks standing in line for six hours in the rain

It's the Republicans' fault for letting it rain ONLY on the black folks.

;->

Of course, one could make the argument that this suppressed the WHITE vote (the black folks were in the rain waiting to vote, while the white folks were....).

That is what is so wonderful about being a Republican, we don't get rained on when we vote, we breathe only clean air and drink pure water. Most importantly, global warming only effects liberals and has no effect on us whatsoever.

Seems like for every testicularly challenged RINO the Dems have a dozen whack jobs like Jesse.

I just did a quick calculation and for a person to wait for 6 hours to vote he would have to be in a line of 720 people. I have been voting for many years and that is a laughable number.

Jesse needs to talk to hisonner Mayor Street in Philly.

Mayor Street has apparently solved the problems of blacks standing in line and not voting.

Here in Philly people vote as often as they want...no lines.

Thants why we get 120% turnout in the predominantly black districts.

Jesse...send John Street out to Ohio...he'll fix you up right!
