Mr. Le saved his wife and other women from harm, that's reward enough. If Rutgers could recognize the guy for his service to the community, that'd be okay too.

The owner, Ngoc Le, 28, saw what was happening, grabbed his gun, which was legally registered, and told Reyes he would let him live if he released his wife, atuhorities said. Reyes would not let the 26-year-old woman go and threatened to kill her. From about four feet away, Le fired the handgun once, hitting Reyes in the head. Reyes died at the scene. This man is a hero. What do you bet Mr. Ngoc Le is a Vietnamese refugee (or son of one)?

Knowing Camden like I do, Mr. Reyes was probably the son of migrants from Puerto Rico, that third world cesspool who's inhabitants we were nice enough to grant citizenship to in 1917.

New Jersey gun laws are brutal, they're a may issue state. This guy is totally lucky. He is also my hero.

Sometimes the press says this even though guns may not have to be registered. What's the law in NJ? According to the NRA ILA site. The guns are not technically registered, but all transfers are recorded by the police, so in effect they are. Gun owners are doubly registered in the case of handguns, because a permit is required for purchase and owners must be licensed. Gotta wonder which part of "shall not be infringed" is unclear to the Powers That Be in NJ. The NJ Constitution however, has no RKBA provision at all, and in all but the 5th Circuit, the courts have decreed that the second amendment only applies to state organized militias.

Reyes was not a VICTIM. It would have been more accurate to say he was the object of a justifiable homicide.

But he was also unlikely to be eligible for a $30,000 reward offered by a Rutgers
Universitys Camden campus and a local law firm, Sarubbi said, because he did not give
a tip that led to the arrest of the rapist.
This fellow better move to Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana.
At least you're likely to get a "well done" for taking out the trash.
Not a "if you'd let him rape your wife, then called the cops, you'd have
$30,000, you moron!".

I bet his wife would rather be unharmed with a hero for a husband than having been a rape victim collecting $30,000 after the fact for a tip.

Couple Back At Work After Killing It's from a paper that is on the "do not post" list.
Good story though.
I'm waiting to hear the perp's family say, "He was good kid, who was just getting started" .
