Wal-Mart Settles Gun Sales Lawsuit

The retailer will pay $14.5 million in its deal with California over alleged violations.

By Julie Tamaki, Times Staff Writer

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will pay $14.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the California attorney general that accuses the nation's largest retailer of a host of gun law violations, state officials said Wednesday.

The settlement, the largest of its kind since Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer's office established a firearms division in 1999, requires Wal-Mart to pay $5 million in fines. Lockyer said the deal also called for Wal-Mart, which agreed last year to halt gun sales across California, to reform its practices should it ever resume firearm sales in the state.

"They were the largest gun seller in California," said Lockyer, who said the company put the lives of all Californians at risk by placing guns in the hands of criminals. "Their business practices become critical to public safety."

Here's to that pending 15.0 earthquake leveling the People's Republik of Krackofornia.

Liberal stupidity never fails to amaze me. Yeah, gang members just bop on down to the local Walmart to buy up crates of TECS, AK's, UZI's, etc.

Fugging stupid!

Read the story and look at the time period involved and the amount and nature of the mistakes involved.

There are probably TEN TIMES the errors and mistakes in the welfare system in the state of CA. But no $$$ is spend to investigate and track those mistakes down. Let alone prosecute those govt individuals responsible.

There's an ongoing law suit in Texas by the family of a woman who bought a shot gun from Wal-Mart and killed herself with it.

Wal-Mart - Deep pockets.

I'm still waiting for Sean Penn to be arrested and tried for losing TWO handguns when he LEFT them in his UNLOCKED car. Maybe AG Lockyer needs to realize that criminals STEALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL guns, the don't walk into Walmart.

Hey blow it out your ***. More Californian's voted for Bush then any other state, not to mention we paid for most of the campaign, and are the chief financial sponsors of this website. Go wish catastrophy on your own state.

Hear, hear! You should have added, "and Californians are the founders, hosts, and maintainers of this website as well."

All that is needed is for a quake to take out about a dozen CA counties or so. It need not be one of the earth-moving kind, howsomever -- an earthquake of ideas will do just fine.

I was considering buying one here in California, but Wally World took all of them out of the cases over a year ago. They said that they were training their employees in firearms "regs", and would have them back in a few weeks. That was B.S., they're not coming back, according to my buddy at the ammo counter.

So they've been appeasing the left for quite a while, around here.

Can someone tell me. If Ca is mostly a “Red” state. How dose this happen? I mean shouldn’t there be a majority of “Rs” in Sac?
