We can expect some photoshopped photos of prisoner abuse that will be blamed on this poor soldier

I googled him too, but I bet that's a fake name anyway.

The real Mike Crook might be a heck of a guy, so I would suggest no one jump to conclusions.

Not extortion but

18 Pa.C.S. § 3924. Theft of property lost, mislaid, or delivered by mistake.
A person who comes into control of property of another that he knows to have been lost, mislaid, or delivered under a mistake as to the nature or amount of the property or the identity of the recipient is guilty of theft if, with intent to deprive the owner thereof, he fails to take reasonable measures to restore the property to a person entitled to have it.

The guy is toast his claim for $1,000 makes that the "market value" of the property and bumps the offense to a Misdemeanor 1 which for a first offense standard sentence is up to 1 to 2 months with aggravating factors allowing another 3 months.

I nominate him for Chief Roadside Bomb Defuser.

Its not charity. The law requires a person to retain property they know is not theirs. See 18 Pa.C.S, Sec. 3924

We've read enough of their social-Darwinism to know their guiding principle never goes far beyond "Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers."

The Michael Crook in Lumberton is NOT the perp.

I just talked with Michael Crook in Lumberton and he was totally unaware of this.  He knows that there is another Michael Crook in New Jersey and he said that he used to get e-mails for him at work.

Please do not call him as he is not the one referenced in the story.
