We could just save alot of time, money, and US lives by blowing up sunni mosques on Fridays.

Until none are left.

Yep, elections are going to be held in Iraq in three weeks, yet we're in a "quagmire"??? The bad guys have been importing cannon fodder from Syria, Iran and Saudi since before Thanksgiving. Coming to our arena to play. Getting their a$$es soldily waxed, yet we're losing??? No wonder MSNBC's ratings numbers are cascading downward.

"Phoenix" worked very well in Vietnam. I don't have a problem using assassination teams in Iraq. Not just for higher echelon Command & Control body count, but for the PsyOps effect as well.

Jack.

I, too, think we're winning. But I'm also in favor of anything that enables us to remain on or get on the offensive.

We are and have been on the offensive since day one - Just because the majority of our successes are passed along to the MSM, don't allow them to spin you to think otherwise -

We are fighting the most successful unconventional war in history -

I'm speaking specifically of SpecOps teams. If it's something effective that we can add, then I'm all for it.

It was tried in Iran under Shah - as a result the popular uprising brought ayatollahs to power.

Jimmah Cahter's incompentence brought the ayatollahs to power.

We regretted it? We won-- in Argentina, in Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, and eventually, Nicaragua.

In any case, from what I read today the "El Salvador" reference is simply an attempt at pre-emptive discrediting on the part of the Lamestream Media.

It appaers more like a policy of targeted reprisals including seizure of family members and destruction of homes and property.

Whether it will reach the level of the wholesale killing of those associated with the Baath is a decison that will be left to the Iraqi government. We will just be along for the ride.

Countries where we (in one form or another) supported right-wing dictatorships in the 60's to 80's:

Brazil: democracy
Argentina: democracy
Chile: democracy
El Salvador: democracy
Nicaragua: democracy
Honduras: democracy (sort of)
Guatemala: democracy (sort of)

Countries where we failed to do so successfully:

Cuba: communist, one party hell-hole
Iran: theocratic, one party hell hole
Vietnam: communist, one party semi-hell-hole

"In the WOT, no option should be removed from the table."

In other words... and I hope this isn't what you meant... you've given in to terrorism, and the WOT is lost. Terrorists "win" when you give into them, and adopt their tactics, making you the same as them.

There's more to it than just what you write. More than once the killers we trained moved into the drug business after we no longer needed them. They used the training to eliminate their competition and bring a different kind of death to our streets.

Just to make it clear: you mean "we supported right-wing dictatorships" in these three countries (and in several others) by supporting Batista, Shah, and Thieu and "we failed", don't you?

Yes-- we failed to support these dictatorships in the crunch and we and their people got stuck with far worse in return.

Forgot to include S. Korea and Spain (although the fellow traveller brigade at State was working with the commies to get Franco removed after WWII).

Sometimes you just have to get the best possible out of a bad situation, and it's stupid to suddenly acquire scruples and wring your hands in the middle of things.
