CBS Fires Four 'Rathergate' Employees

Four CBS News employees have been ousted in connection with CBS's flawed, inaccurate "September surprise" story questioning George W. Bush's National Guard service.

The departing CBS staffers include Senior Vice President Betsy West; "60 Minutes/Wednesday" Executive Producer Josh Howard and his deputy, Mary Murphy, all three of whom were asked to resign, press reports said Monday morning.

Mary Mapes, the producer of the segment on George W. Bush's National Guard service, was fired. Equally as important as who was fired is who was not fired: CBS News President Andrew Heyward will remain in his job, something that will upset people who believe that Heyward is a key player in CBS's allegedly biased reporting.

They should be charged with treason. Rather was equally guilty and his head should roll along with the rest! Sorry, but criticizing the President still doesn't get you treason and execution. That's reserved for things like selling nuclear secrets to the Russians or assassination of government officials. What you propose is execution for (illegitimate) criticism of an elected official. Not that I'm standing up for CBS or Rather and yes, they may have lied, but the last time I checked, the punishment in America for lying wasn't death.

I hear that. I don't totally buy it, because when the story is good, Dan and others at this level consider themselves as the investigative journalist. Not a news reader.
I think they are sparing Dan, based on his effective resignation. Effectively: "just let the old coot go."

The left, with the democrat campaign, the MSM and the freelancers like Michael Moore all add up to a pattern.

I encourage them to continue this pattern.
