Four CBS News employees have been ousted in connection with CBS's flawed, inaccurate "September surprise" story questioning George W. Bush's National Guard service.
The departing CBS staffers include Senior Vice President Betsy West; "60 Minutes/Wednesday" Executive Producer Josh Howard and his deputy, Mary Murphy, all three of whom were asked to resign, press reports said Monday morning.
Mary Mapes, the producer of the segment on George W. Bush's National Guard service, was fired. Equally as important as who was fired is who was not fired: CBS News President Andrew Heyward will remain in his job, something that will upset people who believe that Heyward is a key player in CBS's allegedly biased reporting.
How sad! Now I will never watch CBS again... oh wait, I never watched it to begin with.
Ah well.
Ping.
Methinks "Mary Mapes" will have "Sour Grapes".
Do people ever scan the breaking news sidebar anymore?
The Rathergate 4 should be the Rathergate 5.
We should keep an eye out for the four scum bags. They will show up again somewhere with their venom directed against anyone who disagrees with their far left wing agenda.
They should be charged with treason.
Rather was equally guilty and his head should roll along with the rest!
"Methinks "Mary Mapes" will have "Sour Grapes"."
I rather it be Rather!
The headline didn't come up on the search feature.
PBS ?
I'd sure like to know how they justify ditching all these people while retaining Dan Blather. He and Mapes were the two most responsible parties, but he gets off Scott Free.
Fallout from CBS report
Jan. 10: The report places most of the blame on a producer of a story on President Bush's National Guard service for presenting "half truths as facts," NBC's Lisa Myers reports.
MSNBC
Poor Lisa - she doesn't know a HALF TRUTH FROM A LIE
Still trying to prop up her buddies at CBS
A month or two will go by and they'll all surface with jobs on the "Rat ranks. The 'Rats take care of their own.
Did they fire them again????
Ah, sweet vindication!
Dan Rather knew he needed to "retire."
Mapes will be Mop-ing.
"I'd sure like to know how they justify ditching all these people while retaining Dan Blather."
They did an investigation, and applied their ethics.
You see their results. Don't expect much in the way of "investigative reporting" and "jounalism ethics."
It is sort of circular.
You mean THIS exact headline? It's in Breaking News -- has been since 10 a.m.

And those are just the ones with "CBS Fires" in the headline. |

I told him he's guilty of the worst kind of dishonesty, conscience dishonesty.
How sad? How sweet it is!!!
I never meant to cause an uproar.

Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Dan,
The documents were fake and he didn't give a dam*;
He put 'em on the air, an' he thought he'd done the job,
But up from the web come a howlin' mob.Blogs, that is.
Web logs.
Checkin' facts.Well, the first thing you know ol' Dan's a-runnin' fast;
Made a false report an' it bit him in the a$$;
He said 'dog-gonnit, I done thought I'd get away!'
But it turned out to be his a-reckonin' day.Busted, that is.
Red-faced.
Mud in the eye.Well, now it's time to say goodbye to Dan and all his men;
And they would like to shoot you folks for turnin' them in;
You're all invited back next week to watch the Evening News,
And see which correspondent's picked to fill Dan's empty shoes.Y'all come back, now, hear?

Maybe Mapes will be mopping, in a school somewhere, a restaurant, the CBS studio backlots.
BWAAAAAHHAAAAAAA!
I seen an article a week or two back about the dude that sang the ballad of Jed Clampett he passed away. Did you see it?
Oh, yeah. I did hear about that.
May he rest in peace.
OMG! Too funny!And how appropriate.
No kidding. O'Really lost alot of credibility when he started auditioning for Rather's job.
They're using the Peter Arnett defense: I just read the news. It didn't work for Peter at CNN? but it seems to be working for Captain Dan at CBS.

"They're using the Peter Arnett defense: I just read the news. It didn't work for Peter at CNN? but it seems to be working for Captain Dan at CBS."
I hear that. I don't totally buy it, because when the story is good, Dan and others at this level consider themselves as the investigative journalist. Not a news reader.
I think they are sparing Dan, based on his effective resignation. Effectively: "just let the old coot go."
The left, with the democrat campaign, the MSM and the freelancers like Michael Moore all add up to a pattern.
I encourage them to continue this pattern.
The Ted Baxter Defense...."I didn't know, I just read the news..."
