Does anyone have the quotes that Mel Gibson apparently made after receiving his People's Choice Award in saying he felt a "kinship" with Michael Moore and attacking the war in Iraq?
He's a flaming liberal. I refuse to watch his movie too.
No, but I heard them on 1210am in Philly this morning. He said he liked F-9/11 and totally ripped the mission in Iraq.
Say WHAT????
I never really bought that he was this great conservative like many here seemed to believe. This kinship comment does it for me. He's on my boycott list. He suckered a lot of people with Passion though.
If true, I'll admit that I'm as surprised as anyone.
Sometimes there is a big difference between a "social conservative" and a "conservative."
See, folks, he liked Fahrenheit 9/11. Says it all. And he is not religious like he claims. I could understand a rational reason in being against the war but to praise Michael Moore and the film and attack the President's reason shows what kind of person Mel Gibson is. HE IS NO CONSERVATIVE AND HAS NEVER BEEN.
He has said this before, he wants his Hollywood friends back.
He praised Fahrenheit 9/11. He praises Michael Moore and his hate rhetoric propaganda film. There's something wrong there. He's a poser, folks.
Well, that really is a disappointment. For starters, if he can't see the blatant propaganda in F9/11 he's as blind as a bat. How can you "like" propaganda? It's retarded. This is like a slap in the face for those who campaigned to get people to vote for Passion of the Christ.
"Say WHAT????"
Are you aware Mel Gibson was going to finance Moore's movie? Moore claims the "White House" pressured gibson away from it.
Y'all are all tripping out, accusing this man of something without even having the facts. And, to think that you accuse the liberals of being the ones who do this. Someone posts an "I heard this" post, with no source to back it up and you all go mad. This is pitiful.
Gibson's a nut, always has been ....but makes great movies. I'm particularly fond of Mad Max!
Please provide a link to the article where Gibson does this. I am curious to read it in it's entirety.
So far no "entirety". Someone heard something on the radio or television and well, here you have chaos.
OK - why are so many of you suprised??? One can be conservative and still opposed to the war in Iraq. Obviously Mr. Gibson is of that ilk. No one could doubt his cultural conservatism last year; but now, as he opposes this administration's ill-considered policies in Iraq, he is a "liberal"?
I suppose many of you think that "conservatism" equates with buying 100% into the ravings of Limbaugh and Hannity. Well, sorry - it does not, IMHO.
Yes he suckered a ton of people around here with that and also with his acting like a military man on movies. Some people have a hard time discerning a real uniform from a costume. I think this Diehard character is probably the closest to his own philosophy.
I totally agree. I'm hoping he was mis-quoted (afterall, the MSM is so good at doing that) But, if the quotes are accurate, he's on my boycott Hollyweird list !!
Yup...gossip central. I won't comment on why I poked my nose in, then. :)
Hmmm. . .kinda hypocritical for Mel to be ripping on a war considering the types of movies he usually makes.
Bruce Willis played the Diehard character.
Heck, I just stumbled in to read the posts and people were freaking out.
Well, I found this :
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/03/18/1079199319258.html?oneclick=true
Seems Mel is a conservative, but not crazy about the Iraq war. That I can respect though. What I can't resepet is "liking" a piece of blatant propagandistic BS such as F9/11. There is nothing that makes sense about that.
Post 3. It's apparently been all over the radio. Hopefully he'll make Google so we can expand on this. He's in a league with Michael Moore. He embraces someone who is a radical, hate-infested, anti-American nutcase. He praises his film and in the process clearly is indicting the President for going to war for oil and unsavory reasons.
he played his religion all the way to the BANK
He is a fan of Fahrenheit 9/11. He feels a 'kinship' with Michael Moore. That's radical and Gibson has some issues he needs to resolve with himself.
Lethal Weapon, thanks.
key word = APPARENTLY.
You got a password for that site FRiend?
Could you ping me when you get an answer? I'm interested to know what he said, not what people think he said or what the MSM interpreted him to say.
That said, I was one of few Christians who didn't really like The Passion. It was all right, but not amazing....
Consider that it is said his father actually moved the family to Australia to avoid his sons being drafted and sent to Vietnam. Mel denies it. Why doesn't he just admit it?
That may be true (I'm still waiting for more tangible prrof than "I heard" it) but he still is a cultural conservative. Isn't it funny how some people can keep you guessing ...
I haven't heard the comments, but it seems to me that some people on this board are expecting too much out of Mel Gibson. He is a filmmaker who made the best film of the year, IMO, but he is not a politician. He is a celebrity, and since we don't take liberal ones seriously why do we take seriously those who take a conservative point of view. Either way, it is their one opinion only.
I'll take the ranting and raving of Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter and Malkin over Michael Moore's propaganda any day !!
Freaking out is right. There is no verification here, it's just one guy's question and now there's all this hullabaloo. Knee-jerk, anyone?
I couldn't care less whether he approves or disapproves of the war in Iraq, but to praise F9/11 is stupidity. I did see the so called documentary and it's total trash. What other "conservatives" are praising F9/11? I don't think many.
I agree! Gibson is no liberal!
"Kinship" may mean that he also is a non-traditional director, taking on non-traditional projects, and that his most recent film did well because of non-standard promotion.
That said, I don't know. Let's chill and wait for the facts before assaulting him.
The thing is I don't buy that he lives his life in a religious way. And he apparently finds Michael Moore and his film to be acceptable. Nevermind Michael Moore saying our troops deserve their deaths because the terrorists in Iraq are the equivilent to our minutemen during the Revolutionary War.
It was amazing the world was able to see that Jesus Christ is the Risen Messiah of the world who loved everyone even the Michael Moore's and the insane followers of ISLAM
Maybe someone could pull up some old Passion threads and look to see just WHO was on those threads blasting Mel. Compare those names to those blasting him in this thread.
That is how I read it too. Remember, Gibson's primary passion is filmmaking, and he very well may see similarities with a fellow filmmaker. People need to take a deep breath.
It might have something to do with the fact that Mel's Icon Productions backed out of the original deal to fund F9/11? Or could be the kinship thing was referring to their both having difficulties in funding and distribution? Who knows?
I posted this because on another thread I read of someone who was listening to a radio show this morning and was disappointed in Mel's comments in regards to Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore and his trashing the war in Iraq. I have known that he has basically been against the war, but his praise of that propaganda and Moore has gone to far and Gibson is on my boycott list now. He is no friend when he is that far out of it.
