I especially like this tidbit of information.
The clear inference from this excerpt is that President Bush was in the TexANG to avoid service in Vietnam. Bush did state in his 1968 TexANG application that he did not volunteer to go overseas. However, Mapes had information prior to the airing of the September 8 Segment that President Bush, while in the TexANG, did volunteer for service in Vietnam but was turned down in favor of more experienced pilots. For example, a flight instructor who served in the TexANG with Lieutenant Bush advised Mapes in 1999 that Lieutenant Bush did want to go to Vietnam but others went first. Similarly, several others advised Mapes in 1999, and again in 2004 before September 8, that Lieutenant Bush had volunteered to go to Vietnam but did not have enough flight hours to qualify. The Panel is troubled that this excerpt was used when there was information that contradicted, or at least weakened, the implication of the exchange between Rather and Lieutenant Strong.
NYT or CNN will snap up Mapes within the next couple of weeks. She is just the kind of "journalist" they look for (and for the grammar police, yes, I know I ended in a prepostion-- I did it just to irritate yu).
Actually, you ended in a preposition, but I agree with your sentiment anyway. :)
My money's on PBS. Mapes will probably interview within a few weeks. And, they'll be thrilled to have her.
You guys are thinking too small. She'll be the new head of the DNC. :)
Yu isn't a preposition, is it?
Of course, CBS didn't report on this little tidbit which freepers have known all along.
I think I replied to the wrong person.
Mondays are hard sometimes . . .
>Actually, you ended in a preposition, but I agree with your sentiment anyway. :)
What did you agree with his sentiment for?
:~)
We all remember that even after the report was proven false, Rather still stood by it. What a crock.
I heard this story somewhat differently:
I heard that few or none of the aircraft on which Bush was trained were deployed in SE Asia.
Wasn't he trained in fighters, while most of the aircraft in Viet Nam were bombers?
Too conservative for PBS.
What were you thinking of?
I am deeply offended. Everyone knows that a preposition is something you must not end a sentence with.
This is the sort of arrant pedantry up with which I shall not put!
You agree with Churchill, "This rule is something, up with which, I will not put."
What did you want to use a preposition to end that sentence up with for?
Reminds me of the story of the boy sitting up in his room, receiving an unwanted night-time story book from his parents:
"Why did you bring this book I didn't want to be read to out of up for?"
"NYT or CNN will snap up Mapes within the next couple of weeks. She is just the kind of "journalist" they look for.."
Where is your preposition at?
Many of us have known for ages what this vaunted "Panel" cleverly (not) unearthed and which I have zero doubt Mapes, Rather, etc., knew also.
Here is but one of several articles about it that I found with a quick Google:
Retired Colonel: Bush Volunteered for Vietnam
excerpt:
One of the criticisms leveled at the President is that he sought guard service to keep him from serving in Vietnam.
Morrisey says, "not so."
"The Air Force, in their ultimate wisdom, assembled a group of 102's and took them to Southeast Asia. Bush volunteered to go. But he needed to have 500 [flight] hours, but he only had just over 300 hours so he wasn't eligible to go, Morrisey recalls.
~snip~
Do you think it's alright, if it's you guys I agree with?
If you don't like CBS, we could use you to.
Is, like y'know, like, a preposition too?
And, should I like, um y'know, not use it, like, so often?
Now that FreeRepublic is in the official history of this episode, the MSM will be picking apart our posts looking for proof we are all ignorant rednecks.
How far do you think they will have to look?
It was just a random thought.
