I know the pros are terrific athletes, blah, blah, blah, but after covering high school sports this year, I couldn't believe the quality of performance in the first round of the playoffs this year. I haven't been watching much pro ball this year. The Colts offense looked terrific. Other than that, the Seahawks and Rams looked like an exhibition game, and the Jets/Chargers wasn't much better. I know about conditioning and quality of play and everything, but I swear the better 2A high school teams I photographed this year made far fewer mental errors and used better clock management skills than the professionals did this week. The close games were close because BOTH teams were trying to give the game away. Favre was awful. Denver's defense didn't look like they could stop a blind man on a unicycle.

"Two of these interceptions appeared to me and to the guys in the booth a case of timing patterns where the receiver ran the wrong route. Or it could be that they ran the right routes but Favre forgot the play."

Ahem...

Don't forget Seattle, whose receivers apparently can't catch a pass unless the ball is gently placed in their hands like a marshmallow.

That was Barton.

Thanks, I was trying to forget.

Remember that Mike Martz has never been known for his clock management skills. Otherwise he'd already have a Superbowl ring and Brady & Co. would have one less...

I've always wondered what the story was behind the Rams and the coaching change. Vermiel left a Super Bowl team that he'd assembled to take over the Chiefs. A lot of people thought the Rams were the next dynasty. Under Vermiel, they might have been. But I've never figured out why Vermiel left. It doesn't make sense to leave a Super Bowl team voluntarily, and who in their right mind would fire a Super Bowl winning coach? It was the same thing I wondered about Dallas and Johnson.

Most of your legendary coaches put together one great team, and rode it as long as they could. How many coaches have won Super Bowls with two different quarterbacks? Joe Gibbs did, but Landry, Shula, Lombardi, Knoll, and Walsh all assembled one great team, and were never able to rebuild and win with a different team. Did Siefert win with Montana and Young? All I can figure is that Rams upper management must be extremely difficult to work with.

Doesn't Georgia Frontiere still own the Rams? If so, enough said...

You said "we'll see". Moss was fined $10,000. I think he gets paid that much for every pattern he runs, doesn't he?

Once again, I rest my case.

I did say that, yes, and I agree with you that the punishment was too light. Jake Plummer got a $5,000 fine for his obscene gesture a few weeks ago and that was too light as well.

You rest your case. And I still disagree with your basic premise.
