Anyone who still thinks bad cops don't exists, just go watch a cop testify at trial. Police lie all the time and practically every time they are on the stand.

Just go to ANY courthouse where there is a trial, especially a trial that has no media coverage or an audience. There are soooo many cop tricks to elicit reactions from a arestee before or during arrest that it is amazing there are not more arrests.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

...I guess you'll not make detective any time soon, then!

Revenues is the driving force and main purpose of governments, great and small these days-they pursue revenues with the same desperate urgency of a junkie seeking their next fix.

I think I'd rather have the car available for a quicker response to an in-progress crime ...

Some ass targeted my mailbox with his car. Called the cops and one came to take a report. In the middle of doing a report he got a call. He said, "I'll be back" and took off.

Didn't seem to slow him down responding to when he needed to. Plus the cops got some important face time with the community.

Last thing we need are the cops turning into faceless desk jockies.

Don't want to pay the fine, don't run the red light :)
Good idea, in theory. However, in actual practice, once the red light cameras are installed, one of the first complaints from the contractor that installs and maintains the cameras for a cut of the revenue is that they aren't generating enough revenues and that yellow light cycles should be shortened so that more people "run" the red light.

Red light cameras and photo radar enforcement machines are serious abuse of our liberty. They have nothing to do with safety. They are a lottery for the the benefit of the government and the contractors that operate the cameras.

Everyone notices someone that pulled over for speeding or running a stop sign.
They sure do, and they all slow down, for a little while. But they do slow down, and that may help prevent an accident. They don't even need to be issuing a ticket, just patrol the worst sections of highway a few times an hour, people get real polite.
I think that the police in general are doing as good a job as possible, remember, they are by law a reactive, not proactive force.
The problems I have are rooted in the no knock invasions, or the 0400 knock, wait 4 seconds and break down the door invasion. If you want to talk to me knock on my door, if home I will answer it.
Jack

There are no more cops, they are tax collectors.

We have so few real criminals in this country that we have to import them from Mexico and not deport them when they are caught.

Remember that it's in the pigs' best interest to catch a real criminal here and there to make it look like they are doing their job. If they were to throw all the criminals in jail, they would be out of a job.

On the freeway the other day, there was an idiot that decided to stop in the middle lane of traffic going 75MPH, and then turn around and go in the wrong direction in the left lane.

Why don't cops see these sort of things? Because they are hiding under an overpass.

I was in NM once and I look over to the car next to me on the freeway and see a woman downing a 40oz beer while driving ~80MPH, with a infant in the front seat. I called 911, and they told me that wasn't an emergency. I then called the non-emergency number and couldn't get through.

A new revenue scam where I live is where a extremely attractive female cop that is scantily clad will start flirting with you and ask to go to a motel or some such place and have some fun.

If you don't immediately walk away they will arrest you for prostitution or "soliciting sex in a public place." Even if you say "no" they may still arrest you. They will tell you that you can pay a fine and no one has to know about it or you can take it to trial where you will be humiliated.

They target middle-aged males with a wedding ring on who would rather not have to explain to their wife and kids that they really weren't soliciting sex. Needless to say, most people choose to pay the fine. If someone calls their bluff and asks for a trial, the cops drop the case since they know they'll lose.

Just in case you may not be familiar with that pic, it is the Honorable Marion Barry sharing a crack pipe with a whore, while the cops videotaped them!

You've taken a lot of unnecessary heat on this thread. I don't like it.

I believe the overwhelming majority of LEO's are damned good people. No, I have no family members in law enforcement.....but I appreciate what you do.

Don't you sweat it. God bless you, and may God bless your compatriots who truly put it on the line for the citizens whom they are sworn to protect. It may appear to be a thankless job at times...............but trust me, it isn't.

We thank you.

I go after the cabs almost exclusively as does every cop I know, mainly because any driving New Yorker would tell you they are the "yellow menace".

Reminds of riding in a cab in Brazil. I am proud to say that I survived. Driving the wrong way in one-way streets. Swerving on the sidewalks. No headlights, except when they ran the stop signs, then flash the brights to warn the cross traffic that they are coming through. Chaos, anarchy, crazy drivers with an unwritten code. By comparison NYC is a model of civilization.

Have you ever been to Japan?

As the father of a cop, I keep him and all LEO's in my prayers, and uphold the law, as the only thing to do.

I, too, appreciate the service of a police officer, who cares. Unfortunately, wahoo, there are more and more that just wanna "play" cop, but don't have the "serve and protect" mentality. They become JBT's and the rest of us stand and watch them become a bane on society. We do not need a police state. We need good policing...!

Thank you for your service. We need some good ones...(...and NYC is still on my list of places to go "only in an emergency"!)

It is unusual to have a politician admit this openly.

He didn't admit it openly -- the statement was in a memo from one politician to another, and would never have seen the light of day if the Washington Times reporter hadn't gotten hold of it.

Why am I not surprised to find a donuts comment

When the police spend more time shaking down motorists than they spend suppressing real crimes, it's hardly surprising that average citizens develop contempt for them.

License-plate spray foils traffic cameras

By Steve Sexton
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Motorists have litigated against them, fired bullets at them and thrown garbage on them — all to get back at the traffic cameras that have caught them in the act of running a red light or speeding.
Now they have a new weapon in their arsenal, and it comes in a can for $29.99. A clear spray called Photoblocker can be applied to license plates to make them hyper-reflective and unreadable when the camera flashes.
... (snip)
