FLASH: Bush: 'I don't see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord'...

FLASH: Bush: 'No women in combat'...

Tue Jan 11 2005 22:37:08 ET

President Bush granted THE WASHINGTON TIMES an extensive and exclusive interview late Tuesday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.

Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the government.

"I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is.

President Bush's policy on women in ground combat takes just four words to articulate: "No women in combat."

Despite extended tours of duties in Iraq for soldiers and an Army examination of women's roles, the president told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that he has no intention of sending women into ground combat, a mission for which they are banned under Pentagon policy.

Reporters Rowan Scarborough, Joseph Curl and James Lakely, along with TIMES chief Wes Pruden, probed Bush during the White House session.

The paper plans at least 3 stand alone stories.

But no intelligent man says what he said here, if that is what he said.

Worth repeating. Worth getting banned for saying, too :)

I'm guessing it's from an atheist activist website.

That's from a text file of the alt.atheism FAQ I downloaded close to 10 years ago. If you read the whole thing, you'll also notice that the White House later refused to issue an apology over this and another offensive statement (admittedly, in response to a stupid lawsuit); they actually backed it up.

Do you have a credible source and link that George H. W. Bush actually said this?

That's credible enough for me. Is there an official transcript of everything a president says? No, we rely on reporters for the other stuff.

Well some one appears to have found these quotes in these men's writings and we know they to have written a lot and made a lot of addessses

Some other quotes from God from jefferson have also been posted on FR. as well.

Your saying they did not say these things is not really an expert witness on the subject.

So they will stand as is.

What nonsense! God would never ask Bush to abandon the American people because Bush is probably HIS choice for president. Most of our presidents had faith in God. I don't see them abandoning our country. Your theory is flawed, my friend.

Personally I adore mr. President.

But I think that to be President you don't need any reletionship with heaven. That's what my grand-grand-grand parents believed during the middle-ages: that a king is blessed from the heaven. Today it's not so.

Because we have the reason.

Anyway, I will continue to adore Mr. Bush.

"Since there is no such thing as the "Lord" (except in one's imagination), President Bush is clearly wrong."

So you have faith that the Lord does not exist. Thank you for sharing your faith with us.

His harshest words, and actions, were against the religous authorities of His day.

You bet you can! You can be a warrior for Christ and we are supposed to do that. Christians do NOT have to sit back and take every piece of crap that comes down the pike. ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS!

What nonsense. Christians here do show love but we are also people of JUSTICE and God will wreak havoc on those who continually spit in his face or turn away from him. We don't want to see that happen but we know it will. Nobody minds pissing US off but if we get mad, it's considered to be against God's law. Well, he says we can be angry but sin not. Righteous anger is what Jesus had when he threw the moneychangers out of the Temple. Wait until you see what God does when He pours His wrath out on this world.

Bush: 'I don't see how you can be President without a relationship with the Lord'...

and....

Clinton: I don't see how you can be President without a relationship with your intern...

As Clinton demonstrated, it apparently doesn't have to be a good relationship.......

Wait a minute. You made the assertion that George H. W. Bush said something. You have not proven that he ever did say it. Instead, you pasted a blurb from what I'm now learning is a newsgroup, and you're expecting me to fish around to find a 10 year old posting, and then to believe it's credible if I were to find it?

That's credible enough for me. Is there an official transcript of everything a president says? No, we rely on reporters for the other stuff.

The only reason that would be credible enough for you is if it's something you WANT to believe. You admit there is not an official transcript of this. Then, unbelievably, you state that a "reporter's" word should be good enough. And not just any reporter, a reporter with a huge agenda. I like to be sure someone said/did something before I spread it around. That is fair and responsible. Clearly, you've got some reason to want to cling to this flimsy source, and it doesn't bother you that what you've provided here is far from credible.

God DOES bless those who follow Him and President Bush is MOST blessed. Our nation is blessed as well but we are in danger of losing that blessing if we don't shape up.
