FLASH: Bush: 'I don't see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord'...

FLASH: Bush: 'No women in combat'...

Tue Jan 11 2005 22:37:08 ET

President Bush granted THE WASHINGTON TIMES an extensive and exclusive interview late Tuesday, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.

Mr. Bush told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that many in the public misunderstand the role of faith in his life and his view of the proper relationship between religion and the government.

"I think people attack me because they are fearful that I will then say that you're not equally as patriotic if you're not a religious person," Mr. Bush said. "I've never said that. I've never acted like that. I think that's just the way it is.

President Bush's policy on women in ground combat takes just four words to articulate: "No women in combat."

Despite extended tours of duties in Iraq for soldiers and an Army examination of women's roles, the president told editors and reporters of The Washington Times yesterday in an interview in the Oval Office that he has no intention of sending women into ground combat, a mission for which they are banned under Pentagon policy.

Reporters Rowan Scarborough, Joseph Curl and James Lakely, along with TIMES chief Wes Pruden, probed Bush during the White House session.

The paper plans at least 3 stand alone stories.

He accepts that their attacks are just par for the course, doesn't obsess over it, just accepts it.

He attributes the attacks to the feeling some have that there is implication they cannot be a true "American" if they are not religious. Totally off base if that is there sentiment, though I'm not entirely in agreement that this is at the root of their dislike of his Faith.

The key to President Bushes success is that he has set out on a course to drive the liberals crazy. And he is succeeding. This completely confounds the liberal haters and secularists. They don't get it. They will never get, until they set their pride on the shelf and look at themselves. He just keeps on keeping on.

In any case, President Bush can freely state the truth. He has been elected for four more years. As one excellent tagline I read states it, he is accountable to God and history.

Depends on what your definition of 'combat' is......the Army is sending out female medics on patrols and has plans to put them with infantry units on extended stays before and during the elections. Will they be sent into an ongoing heated battle? No. will they be sent on missions where combat is very likely to occur. You bet and they are as he speaks.

The libs will be fit to be tied over this. Why President Bush is a religious fundamentalist and he's anti-woman. That how they look at it just like they dismiss folks living south of the I-95 as beneath them. No sir, we can't have this display of religious intolerance and misogynism in Anerica, we can't have that. You can literally predict the reaction of these people before they even say it.

The Left is going to go nuts at this statement, and typically not understand what he means. Though I don't have the context I'd wager a probable guess he is refering to the pressures of the job and that God sustains him throughout. When you have His strength to lean on, it makes it difficult to understand how anyone could perform the job without.

I agree with the Prez on women in combat. I'm a woman and, sorry, endangering the unit by placing females within it would be wrong. Not to mention the high probability of rape used against them in event of capture.

ABCbs is touting an interview of POTUS and FLOTUS by Baba Wawa during 20/20 on Friday at 10PM Eastern. I guess it's all part of the inaugural season.

wow - they're nuts.

'if push comes to shove, bush would abandon the american people if his "god" told him to, so what the f is that for a leader?

to be president you have to be an atheist at heart. you can't worry about your soul or your relationship with some sort of god if you have sworn to defend the US'

Since there is no such thing as the "Lord" (except in one's imagination), President Bush is clearly wrong.

Ditto! I don't recall hearing "Mr." Clinton when he was in office and in his case "Mr." was far more suitable than President. The MSM are caught between two irreconcilable forces -- knowing he will be our President for the next four years but hoping by calling him Mr. Bush we'll forget it.

The President either doesn't know or is being disingenuous on the subject of females in combat. It is happening everyday.
