I haven't trusted Hackworth sense I found out one of his favorite pastimes is bashing Oliver North. Also, I picked up his recent book (Steel My Soldiers Heart, I think)--it was an unreadable mess.

I received an e-mail from Hackworth in April, 2003. In part it said:

refused to go on FOX becuz they just don’t tell the truth.

Sounds to me like Fox fired him.

Six,

I agree. I liked Hack as first but his smarmy attitude got to me eventually. Besides that, his public criticism of the Commanding Generals and staffers during the war efforts was off-the-wall. I think Hack is a wanna-be General and those in the closest circles at those levels saw through his crap a long time ago...hence his departure from the US Army as a Colonel.

The CBS panel does indeed mention him and he comes off like a partisan hack.

You are right to an extent on all accounts. The fact is Hack has been fighting "yesterday's wars" since he left the Military.

He was crying the sky is falling before the First Gulf war (which the MSM conveniently forgets) - He was saying 20,000 body bags minimum to remove Saddam from Kuwait -

Hack has been deeped sixed by many in the Military years ago.

Is it just me or is the "timing" interesting? That email is April 2003...we entered Iraq in March 2003. Maybe that's when he started coming unglued on their shows. (pure speculation of course)

Agreed, but the news reports don't mention him at all.

It's my understanding that one of the Abu Graib guards under investigation (Grabener?) had an uncle who tried to blackmail the Pentagon to go easy on his nephew with the photos. The Pentagon told him to pound sand, so he released them, whether to Mapes directly, I don't know.

I remember those arrows and barbs being thrown -- say anything against Hackworth and you were the enemy.

And like Ritter, he did a huge flip flop.

And Hack did his "left turn" at nearly the same time and for the same reasons as Ritter, money and power.

Hey, it could happen. All hack has to do is play like he's a little girl on the internet and then ritter can meet him at a burger king or something.

WHO gave Mapes the PICTURES of ABU GRAHIB??

That's an established fact. The pictures came from the father of one of the accused soldiers. He gave them to the press to get back at the higher-ups in the military whom he though were unfairly prosecuting his son for his involvement.

i hope this report is true

Believe it. There is a transcript of (at least some of) Hackworth's interview in the report on CBS. Hackworth made a complete fool of himself. Any shred of credibility he had left went down the tubes in that report.
