Catholic Bishop of London (Ontario, Canada) Issues a “Call to Action” on Homosexual “Marriage”

LONDON, January 14, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Roman Catholic bishop of London Ontario, Ronald P. Fabbro, has asked his flock to begin lobbying their MP’s against the proposal to change the definition of marriage to include homosexual partnerings.

“I ask you to take an active role in defending the traditional meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” Fabbro wrote in a letter dated January 5th. “As Catholics, we have a duty to make our voices heard in the public realm. These are momentous and far-reaching decisions that are being made. Your members of Parliament need to hear from you. They need to know what you consider to be for the good of future generations.”

Sarnia-Lambton MP, Roger Gallaway said of the Catholic lobbying effort, “This is huge and I don't think all of the intellectual people in the prime minister’s office are expecting this.”

Bishop Fabbro said in an interview that one of the many reasons to oppose the equating of homosexuality with true marriage is the decline in the birth rate. “The birth rate is falling in Canada. It's low here. This new definition of marriage would make children an optional part of that and that's a big concern,” he said.

In Canada, the birth rate has been declining steadily for about the same time that divorce, abortion and contraception have been legal. To maintain a steady population and work force, Canada relies heavily on immigration, but this results in an aging population demographic.

Pro-life activists have been joined recently by demographers who warn that this world-wide trend is an economic disaster waiting to happen. Fabbro said that the institution of homosexual “marriage” is a move toward “an experiment of social engineering which we don't know the consequences of and risking to further undermine (traditional marriage).”

The page on which Bishop Fabbro’s message appears on the diocesan website includes links to suggested sample letters and the Parliamentary website where names and addresses of MP’s can be found.

Vatican Document On Homosexual Unions

“Homosexual unions are totally lacking in the biological and anthropological elements of marriage and family which would be the basis, on the level of reason, for granting them legal recognition. Such unions are not able to contribute in a proper way to the procreation and survival of the human race. The possibility of using recently discovered methods of artificial reproduction, beyond involving a grave lack of respect for human dignity,(15) does nothing to alter this inadequacy.”

Voter's Guide for Serious Catholics

THE FIVE NON-NEGOTIABLE ISSUES

5. Homosexual "Marriage"

True marriage is the union of one man and one woman. Legal recognition of any other union as "marriage" undermines true marriage, and legal recognition of homosexual unions actually does homosexual persons a disfavor by encouraging them to persist in what is an objectively immoral arrangement.

"When legislation in favor of the recognition of homosexual unions is proposed for the first time in a legislative assembly, the Catholic lawmaker has a moral duty to express his opposition clearly and publicly and to vote against it. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the common good is gravely immoral" (UHP 10).

Maybe they should concentrate on getting their own house in order first.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Good for the Bishop. I hope his flock pay attention and speak up for truth.

Would that more religious leaders of every denomination and religion would do the same.

Pretending to be a religious authority or believer yet at the same time being either a promoter of immorality or "neutral" is contradictory. Being an actual believer in God isn't a type of pledge of allegiance, it's actually having faith and conviction in what He says, and doing one's best to live up to His rules. And funny thing, those basic rules are essentially the same in every monotheist religion.

Let me and DirtyHarryY2K know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

Feel free to ping me to relevant articles (either homosexual type or moral absolute type, which is very subjective!) since I seem to be back on FR regularly. I'm filling in for DirtyHarry for now.

That's sort of what I've been saying for several years: When homosexuals can procreate *without* the aid and/or intervention of 3rd parties, we can discuss homosexual marriage. Until that happens (and it cannot) forget about any talk of "normalizing" homosexuality.

Yes, I agree. Homosexuals should never be ordained Catholic priests. It is obvious (though many refuse to admit it) that nearly *all* cases of "pedophile" priests are actually cases of homosexuals abusing children.

The Catholic Church, particularly in the US has spent the last 30 years backing liberal politicians for their "social justice" positions and has looked the other way while such "good Catholics" like Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry and Tom Daschle have pushed their abortion agenda. Now only when all this liberalism has followed its natural course with gay marriage like abortion being pushed a constitution right do they wake up. Where were you when this band wagon could have been stopped before it started?

The Bishop should urge the Pope to make public the Third Secret of Fatima and to fulfill the Holy Mother's Requests.
Then and only them will the world start to right itself, and peace will prevail.

Don't be shy -if you support homosexual 'marriage' just come out and state it.

Just thinking of that scripture about taking the plank out of your own eye first... Funny how that little scripture just seems to get in the way...

I call it moral relativism -not funny... The scripture applies to you as well...

Both issues are seperate. Truth in each individual circumstance should be discerned independently as per authentic teaching.

If you suggest the Canadian Bishop is in error -state it. If you suggest the Catholic Church is in error -state this as well.

"The scripture applies to you as well..."

I haven't been sued for millions dollars because I've been placed in a religious setting of complete trust and then get convictions of sexually molesting young boys.

-and... How does this apply to the Canadian Bishop, the Catholic Church, and Homosexual 'marriage'?

Let me help you out here -those that were guilty of sexually molesting young boys were humans. --See where moral relative reasoning goes?

Try sticking to the issue directly <---remove plank

I am glad that the Catholic Church has courageously made a stand against homosexualism which is contrary to the Bible. However, one thing I can't understand is why does the Catholic Church support the abolition of the death penalty when such is supported by the Bible?
