Sy Hirsch Tries To Rip Off Gunny Bob?

Posted on 01/16/2005 8:56:24 AM PST by GunnyBob

I could use some intel from you guys.

Last week, I broke the story on Clear Channel stations from coast to coast of how the US is conducting clandestine reconnaissance missions via Global Hawk in Iran. The Hawks are searching for intel on Iran's nuke program. One went down near Arak, where Iran has their heavy-water facility. I also reported that the rumors of US manned reconnaissance flights over Iran were in fact decoy flights to draw Iran's attention away from the GH missions.

I just heard on MSNBC that Sy Hirsch will have an article in next week's "New Yorker" reporting what I reported last week. Have any of you heard this scoop from a source other than MSNBC?

If he intends to rip me off by claiming he broke this story, I am going to send him an invoice.

Thanks.

Gunny Bob

Don't know if it was shot down or just crapped out.

Ditto. Of the 30 stories I have broken in the WoT since October 2001, not a one has compromised methods or sources. Too bad other media types don't follow that model.

I am not sure, I only saw the end of it, talking about the Abu Ghraib prison abuses. Sorry. I only posted thinking you or someone else saw the whole thing.

If anyone saw the whole segment with Hirsch on CNN, would you please tell me what he was talking about, especially if he mentioned the Iranian recon story?

A plague upon the House of Hirsch! I am now duty bound to hunt him down, kill him slowly, skin him, and build a kayak out of his ribcage and a pencil box out of his shinbone.

Looks like they'll pull your thread. I don't know why, given what the New Yorker and Hirsch story says. I'd rather see some FReeper get credit for it than some Commie Bush-basher!

Here is my GPS of 7 Jan:

"For several days, rumors have been flying about an aircraft of some sort having been shot down near Iran’s top-secret nuclear weapons development site at Arak. Those rumors are close to being substantiated now. It appears that an unmanned aerial vehicle or UAV, in other words a remote-controlled drone, had been flying over the Iranian facility when it was shot down by Iranian forces. Intelligence coming out of the Middle East says the craft was on a reconnaissance mission to gather information on what’s going on at Arak. Not only may it have had photographic equipment aboard, but also scientific equipment designed to sniff the air for signs of nuclear activity. The speculation is that the aircraft was operated by the CIA from inside Iraq as a means of collecting intelligence that could be used by President Bush or Israel to make a decision as to what action, if any, to take against the terrorist government of Iran for building nuclear weapons. That, of course, is a charge the Iranians have long denied."

Then, after I confirmed the scoop, I ran this GPS on 14 Jan:

"I can now confirm my GPS report of 7 January, which told of rumors about CIA UAVs being sent into Iran to collect data on Iran's nuke sites. One was shot down. These UAVs may have detection systems aboard that would indicate nuclear weapons development is going on at a certain site. This move by the US could easily be considered an act of war, i.e., sending a reconnaissance aircraft into Iranian airspace for the purpose of gathering information on Iran's military capabilities. Iran is playing this close to the vest because they don't know what data the UAVs have collected, which could prove Iran is developing nukes. One of the UAVs in use in Iran is the huge ( 44' x 116' ) Global Hawk, which has a 12,000-mile range, and is anti-aircraft-missile resistant and can be controlled from the AWACS and JSTARS aircraft from great distances. It flies at a maximum altitude of 65,000 feet."

I love how liberal college professors make there students do footnotes in there papers. However its sad that this reporter, who is a probably a college graduate, wont follow these rules. I'm a big fan of give credit where credit is due.

Interesting tidbit... Kerrys Biography (which he didnt write) did have footnotes in it, while John O'Neils book did.

Does anyone say "DARK STAR". I guess that congress shouldnt have cut this program, since this wouldnt have happened if we had a stealth UAV.

Sorry. Someone linked this thread at the other thread (the New Yorker one). When I clicked on it there, it said no such post existed. So, since I had this thread still up in a live window, I posted what I did, to see if it was still "alive". It is! The other thread had the wrong link posted, so I posted a correction there.

David Limbaugh has already commented on "Journalism" versus the National Interest...

I just watched part of Wolf Blitzer's interview of Seymoour Hersh on CNN's Late Edition about Hersh's New Yorker magazine article published today."

Further, he asks "Yes, I said it: unpatriotic. If tipping off the enemy isn't unpatriotic can you tell me what is?"

What do you think about people that disclose covert operations ostensibly to the enemy?
