During the bottom-of-the-hour news break, it was announced that a Catholic bishop was kidnapped in Mosul.
Sadly, it's just a matter of time before the video shows up on ogrish.
Urgent Catholic ping, especially to Siobhan, Dajjal, broadsword, and NYer!
Prayers going out for the Archbishop.

More Religion of Evil at work! Gosh I just love those Muslims. They are so friendly. They'll even give you a shave while you are in captivity.

VATICAN CITY - A Roman Catholic archbishop in Mosul, Iraq (news - web sites), has been kidnapped, the Vatican (news - web sites) said Monday.
It identified the kidnapped man as Archbishop Basile Georges Casmoussa, 66, of the Syrian Catholic Church, one of the branches of the Roman Catholic Church.
"The Holy See deplores in the firmest way such a terrorist act," a Vatican statement said, demanding that he be freed immediately.
According to reports from Baghdad, Casmoussa was walking in front of his church in Mosul's eastern neighborhood of Muhandeseen when he was abducted.
Mosul is a northern Iraqi city that in recent months has been a hotspot of violent insurgency.
The reason for the kidnapping was unclear, but Christians tens of thousands of whom live in and around Mosul have been subjected to attacks in the past.
Christians make up just 3 percent of Iraq's 26 million people. The major Christian groups in Iraq include Chaldean-Assyrians and Armenians. There are small numbers of Roman Catholics.
Officials estimate that as many as 15,000 Iraqi Christians have left the country since August, when four churches in Baghdad and one in Mosul were attacked in a coordinated series of car bombings. The attacks killed 12 people and injured 61 others.
Another church was bombed in Baghdad in September.
First will come the lightning....
Then the appearance of St. Eggbert and the Swift Sword of Retribution! Oh, woe to youse, you infidels.
Or. . . alternately, the pope could offer himself in exchange for the bishop. Then the pope could convert all the unbelievers to our side!
Betcha this is a catholic plan to take back the holy land!
Hail to the new Crusade!
Religion of "Peace" ping!
You've gotta be careful what you say in front of the muslim fella's. They actually listen to what is said.............
Okay, so they bomb our churches, and kidnap Christian leaders...and our soldiers are not allowed to bomb mosques?????????? Bombs AWAY!
As much as I don't like much of what the Vatican is doing these days, I hope this thread become an excuse for anti-Catholicism. I am not accusing you of it, but I can see where this can head.
Oh no. This is terrible.
I agree. All bets are off. Bomb at will.
Prayers on the way for his quick and safe return. May the angels stand guard over him and protect him.
The religious war begins.
The holy land is free. Where were you?
The Catholic Bishops of Iraq have all been fairly supportive of the American et al. efforts in Iraq.
So, will the islamotrash first call for a pullout of all Catholic "crusaders" or just behead the man on general principle?
I wonder if this is more Saudi 'insurgents' at work...
Part of the Holy Land is "governed" (if that's the right word) by the "Palestinian Authority".
I am sure the reason is Bush's fault.
How 'bout this: The muzzies really should avoid p*ssing of the Catholic church. Its resources and connections are vast, and I'm betting it will go very badly for the kidnappers if they kill the good bishop.
I wish not ill on the bishop, as much as I'd like to see the church more firmly on our side.
Prayer circle ping
Also, pray that if he faces death, that he faces it like the martyrs of old.
Iraqi Christians were safer under Saddam than under Bush. Sorry to say that. In fact, we all would have been better off if Saddam went on to take Mecca right after Kuwait - women in Suadi Arabia would have ditched the burkha by now and have been allowed to become doctors and drive cars.
They need to allow the christians to arm themselves, so the can protect their families etc. By they I mean the american forces in Iraq.
I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
PS: IF Saddam did take Saudi Arabia - or just kept Kuwait - he would have been pumping that oil in record numbers of barrels to pay off his debts.
10,000 somewhat sober, armed IRA members are marching on Mosul as we speak!
Maybe they should vote for him as a write in.
The Christian Church will only grow through martyrdom. That is a fact. Saddam's regime was a brief respite for Iraqi Christians, who before Saddam, suffered dhimmitude. Muslims have killed Christians since the beginning, so in any case, after Saddam, it would have continued.
I believe one of the Pope's concerns regarding the 2003 edition of the Iraq War was the risk of replacing Saddam's secular thugocracy with a Saudi or Iranian style of Islamic thugocracy. He never quite stated it that way, but that's what I saw reading between the lines.
Maybe they should vote for him as a write in.
Unreal. Just as you think these pigs can't sink any lower, they do. Bastards like them can not be reasoned with. They can only be killed so the rest of us can live in freedom and peace.
Equally sickening is the fact that the left will immediately criticise Bush for this, thereby playing right into the kidnappers hands. Why are people so stupid?
The IRA are Marxists, so I don't think they really would care. Besides, I would rather have 10,000 armed-to-the-teeth Maltans for this. ;-)
In fact, I say START with the mosques.
We must have been reading 'between' the same lines. I thought the same thing;in fact, until I read your post,I had believed that he had said it.
>>Iraqi Christians were safer under Saddam than under Bush.<<
Have you spoken to any of them??
Saddam's policies may have seemed to be friendly to Christians but I know Chaldean Catholics who are still missing family members from the time of Saddam.
I am one city north of Chaldean Central in Michigan. They celebrated the fall of Saddam and understand that their families are always in danger, just being Christian over there.
Oh no! He's dead, he has to be...the media will keep the whole thing quiet as usual.
Prayers going out.
And, as much as I hate to say it, I don't see how the abductors can turn the Bishop loose without appearing weak to the Islamic world.
Last month, they blew up several churches in Iraq. Now, they kidnap Archbishop Casmoussa.
Please remember our catholic brethren in the Middle East who are constantly subjected to persecution.
Catholic Ping - please freepmail me if you want on/off this list
