A teenager was sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to firebombing a Jewish elementary school, an attack apparently in retaliation for Israel's killing of Palestinians.
The sentencing of Sleiman Elmerhebi, 19, came nine months after the fire at the United Talmud Torahs school in Montreal. Prosecutors had described the incident as an act of terrorism.
Elmerhebi last month pleaded guilty to arson and said he committed the crime after reacting emotionally to what he had seen on television about the Middle East. A note left at the school after the fire said the attack was in retaliation for Israel's killing of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.
Canada has been named one of the five countries with the highest rates of anti-Semitic incidents, along with France, Britain, Russia and Germany. Both defense lawyer Pierre Poupart and Crown prosecutor Anne Aube agreed the firebombing was a hate crime. A conspiracy charge against Elmerhebi was previously dropped. He had originally pleaded not guilty to the two charges.
Nobody was injured in the firebombing, which destroyed the school library and came on the heels of several anti-Semitic incidents in other parts of Canada.
He should be executed. What will he do next? He has served notice on society that he is not fit to live amongst civilized people.
Hateful Bastards, all!
<< He should be executed. What will he do next? He has served notice on society that he is not fit to live amongst civilized people. >>
But then again he is just your typical common garden-variety islamonazi Quebecois.
