Maybe the snow will cut down on the demonstrator factor.

I think it will--they're a fragile bunch.

Brit Hume interviewing VP Cheney now (taped interview).

Cheney says he thought that the treatment Condi received by the senators was "fundamentally unfair".

He's being too nice, I think. Condi was attacked. The whole administration was attacked.

Wow!!! Good for Larry Gatlin (who btw is from here in Odessa, Texas!). I wish I could have seen him punch them out verbally! The looks on their faces would have been worth it all!

Good evening, Gretchen. Thanks for today's Dose.

For those who may have missed it, the First Lady was on the CBS morning show today. She was interviewed by Bill Plante. For those who are interested, go here http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/01/19/earlyshow/main667735.shtml?CMP=ILC-SearchStories for an article about the interview.

Here's a snippet about Beezie and Barney (no photos, unfortunately):

Mrs. Bush gave Plante a semi-exclusive: a look at the Bush family's new Scottish Terrier, Miss Beazley, and insight into how the first pets are getting along.

"She's just doing great," Mrs. Bush said, holding Miss Beazley in her lap. "She's settled in really very well. She's really sweet. She's teething, so she does a lot of chewing."

[The puppy was chewing on the First Lady's finger at this point in the interview.]

As for Barney, the Bush's other dog, he has "become very protective of her and he doesn't act really particularly jealous, so I think that's great. He rushes in to see her. She stays in the kitchen, mainly, the kitchen upstairs, where there's not a carpet, and she's just been a very, very sweet dog. So we've had a lot of fun with her.

"She likes to chase our cat. The only one who's not really thrilled with Miss Beazley is our cat, India."

Mrs. Bush adds, "Beezie likes Barney, she loves Barney. She's very interested in everything Barney does."

Thanks for the picture. I know this sounds crazy, but I am CERTAIN I have seen President Bush in that same golf shirt last summer. Knowing that he doesn't care much about clothes and is fairly frugal, I will bet it is, indeed, the same shirt.

***Man, where did all that snow in DC come from?***

Yup, that snow sure surprised me, too. We lived a half hour from D.C. for a year, and the only snow we had was one 4" fall of light, fluffy stuff that you could drive through with no trouble. (Of course the natives abandoned their cars on the roads and refused to leave their houses. Sorry, D.C. people, but to a northerner it was too funny. Loved your weather, though and wish we had some of it right now.)

I am very disappointed that the Inaugural Gala, with both the Bush and Cheney families in attendance, has not been on any channel that I can find. I did catch a glimpse of the Gatlin Brothers and Reuben Stoddard on MSNBC, but that's it. Unless it just started, nothing on CSPAN either (last time I checked CPAN1 had Tony Blair and CPAN2 had the Mayor of Carmel, Indiana.

Thanks for posting that link.

Excerpt - Mrs. Bush says there's one aspect of the inauguration she hopes is different this time than it was four years ago. "I hope that we'll actually be able to pay attention to it," she says. "I think, four years ago, it was such a whirlwind that we didn't really observe it, we couldn't stand back from it, and I hope we'll be able to do that. I'm going to try to make notes every night so I really can remember things that happened that day and feelings that I had. So I think it'll be great."

I hope Laura and her family have a blast.

Oh .. he was just fabulous .. smiling, cheerful, full of enthusiasm, happiness and conviction, and firm in his statements. He was NOT about to apologize to ANYONE. He goes back a long way with the Bushes, and you can tell how much he loves them. Jooody asked him .. "not to defile any confidences .. but what DO you and the President talk about: music? sports?" He told the CNNumbskulls that he just offers his help to Pres. Bush everytime he see him .. that he'll go anywhere or do anything to help out.. even go to Baghdad. What a handsome prince!

Uh oh -- FREEPER ALERT!!! Brit just announced that freerepublic.com had filed an application to protest the protestors at the Inauguration as did another group !!!! YAY KRISTIN!!! and Angelwood, Dr. Raoul!! YOU and all the DC FReepers ROCK!!

LOL! You're right, I'm sure. The thing is a tank. A gorgeous one, but a tank nevertheless. The terms of Cadillac's contract with the Secret Service include restrictions on discussing all the security equipment on the car. But the armor alone must make it weight considerably more than the retail version of the same model.

It's supposed to be above freezing in DC tomorrow -- in fact, close to 40 -- which is fine for those participating in the inauguration. However, I sure would love to have seen the idiots who threw eggs and tomatoes at the presidential limo four years ago have a tomato freeze in their hands. You know -- sort of like that movie a few years ago where the kid gets his tongue frozen to a pole.

Seems appropriate to me. As a Senator, Ms. Hillary gets to sit with the Senate contingent, so she may not care how Bill arrives.

I do hope someone captures pictures of the wonderful outfit Laura wore tonight at the Celebration of Freedom. She was in a winter white suit, coat and wrap and even if it was cashmere, she just had to be freezing. I'd also like to see a photo Bush 41 in his woolen hat pulled over his ears. CNN said etiquette dictates no hats were to be warn and I noticed he removed it when the President and VP arrived but probably thought the h*ll with etiquette and put it back on few minutes later.

That would serve them right .. partially frozen egg glop dripping down their arms ... tee hee.

Here's the guy who has a heroic mission this week .. and I have no doubt he's up to the task. We all remember how tender and protective he was in his very honorable service to Mrs. Reagan as her escort during the Reagan Memorial Week events. Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman

Maj. Gen. Galen B. Jackman stands on a giant map of the inaugural parade route. Inaugural security is expected to be the tightest in history. (That map is amazing.)

Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge inspects heavily armed soldiers as he is briefed by Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman, commander of the military district of Washington, during a tour of the security in place for the inauguration.

Party on!!

Speaking of Brit, I was watching Special Report last nite and I thought this segment with the panel was particularly telling about the democrat mindset.

They were discussing the Social Security reform proposed by President Bush. Mara was really struggling to understand it. She said, "I can understand the prescription card -- people will get the card in a year or so, and he'll get a political boost, but it will be years before any benefit can be seen from this social security reform thing... why would he do it?

She was genuinely confused. In her world, one doesn't do anything unless there is a political benefit.

Even Mort or Fred mentioned "legacy." (obviously mixing Prez Bush up with 42). Finally Brit tentatively posited the possibility that Dubya was doing it because he believed it was right for the country.

Everyone looked confused.

Pathetic.

He was remarkable in the gentle, yet strong way he escorted Mrs. Reagan. Although it was undoubtedly a sad duty for him, that has to be one of the biggest highlights of his career. I hope he gets his 4th star someday.
