SpongeBob in crosshairs

The New York Times

WASHINGTON — On the heels of electoral victories to bar same-sex marriage, some influential conservative Christian groups are turning their attention to a new target: the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.

James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said that SpongeBob's creators have enlisted SpongeBob in a “pro-homosexual video,” in which he appeared with other children's television characters.

The makers of the video, Dobson said, plan to mail it to thousands of elementary schools this spring to promote a “tolerance pledge” that includes tolerance for differences of “sexual identity.”

Dobson's becoming nearly as big a joke as Donald Wildmon.

I've always suspected Sponge Bob was a flamer.

Protecting American families with info about their schools and other institutions is hardly a joke.

Yeah, who does he think he is, getting upset about using cartoon characters to persuade kids to engage in random sexual intercourse with strangers?

I think the owners of the Sponge Bob franchise are being extremely foolish to let their character be used for proselytizing kids into the homosexual lifestyle, which is what this amounts to. (Yes, I know, they call it "tolerance," which would be OK, but it goes far beyond that.)

But I agree that stirring up the issue probably will only make matters worse. Now more kids will just giggle a little differently when they see Sponge Bob.

He upsets me whenever he goes after our President and he does a lot of that lately, but protecting kids is admirable.

You think he would have learned from Falwell and the Teletubbies.

I have only seen one episode of SpongeBob, and in it, he (or one of his sidekicks) decides he is going to wear a bra, because the girls do it, why can't he? Seriously, he wears a bra on the outside of his clothes! How am I supposed to explain that one to my kid? And why should I have to?

Needless to say, my kid won't be watching this show.

Teletubbies, however, I have no problem with. I have been watching it about once a week with my child, and I've never seen anything wrong in it.

In this case he was babbling at a Inaugural celebration. Way to help out the MSM...by bringing up this sort of wierd stretch of the imagination.

He wasn't just talking about that stupid this time, but about the show itself.
