Unwelcome and Unfazed, Demonstrators Push Messages [D.C. Chapter of Free Republic Mentioned]
Washington Post ^ | 01/21/05 | Manny Fernandez and Eric Rich

They were pelted with snowballs, doused with pepper spray. They were outnumbered by police and by Bush loyalists, drowned out for the most part by the fanfare of the nation's 55th inauguration.

The thousands of protesters who took to the streets to oppose President Bush's second swearing-in did succeed on at least one score: No one who came to Washington to celebrate the inauguration yesterday left without encountering them.

The biggest disruption apparently occurred late last night, far from the center of inaugural action, in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Northwest Washington. Shortly before midnight, police clad in riot gear arrested 65 people they described as anarchists for allegedly parading without a permit after the encircled A symbol of the anarchist movement was spray-painted on buildings.

Police reported 14 arrests for various offenses, most of them related to the protests. But about two dozen activists who wanted to be arrested were left lying on the cold asphalt near Lafayette Square for three hours before abandoning their "die-in."

"I think [the police] had a no-arrest strategy because of all the bad publicity they've had in the last few years and the fact that they are facing a lot of lawsuits," said Mark L. Goldstone, a veteran protest lawyer.

A few blocks down the parade route, other demonstrators, these of a conservative mind, rallied in support of the president in an event organized by the D.C. chapter of Free Republic, a banner reading "God Bless W And Our Troops" attached to the barricades.

But many didn't need a banner to show their support for the president or frustration with protesters. "You don't like our country!" one person seated on the West Front shouted to the protesters, who included a group from Code Pink: Women for Peace, who disrupted Bush's speech.

The D.C. chapter's banner made it into the Washington Post. Congratulations!

The WaPo also reports that the protest crowds were much smaller this year --- even the organizers only estimated 25,000.

Mark Goldstone sounds like the type of guy who would complain about conditions if he actually got arrested. What type of loser protester deliberately tries to get arrested, but can't?

I would have loved to have the Fire Dept come and just spray a gentle mist onto them. Then again, as far as the LSM goes, that would be torture.

I watched the parade from a building in the 1200 block. The stands were half empty. One other person said that the reason the bleachers were not filled is that the demonstratiors were getting in the security line and bringing things they couldn't have to slow up the search.

This kept people with tickets from getting in.

I don't know if this is true, but that's what a man at my party told me.

On NBC, I think, they did show some of the leftist protestors being hosed down. Just enough to get them wet in that cold weather. They all backed off real fast.

The pro-terrorist, anti-american Democrat/Communist "protesters" did not accomplish their goal of making the front pages of the worlds newspapers. What they did accomplish was revealing their identities and tactics to the FBI and other security agencies.

I heard one radio reporter say that from what he saw, the number of protestors was greatly exaggerated - there were hundreds, not thousands.

Heh. Cops knew what they were doing. :-)

"I think [the police] had a no-arrest strategy because of all the bad publicity they've had in the last few years and the fact that they are facing a lot of lawsuits," said Mark L. Goldstone, a veteran protest lawyer.

Or we have discovered a handful of lefties who were smart enough to come in out of the cold.

No Mark, no one cares. That's what hurts you the most.

They all looked liked mindless soldjers marching to one beat led by lies and more lies. The most important, being making sure they all chanted in unision with no regard to the truth. Only controlled and mindless speak.

The thousands of protesters

Oh, so now it's in the thousands. Yesterday it was 500. Tomorrow, tens of thousands I guess.

People around DC don't call the Post "Pravda on the Potomac" for nothing, c in nyc. As a paper of note, the Post has been spiralling downward in readership and credibility for more than a decade.

Even with all the Ballyhooed noise and expectations from the Media and the net. What exactly did these protesting Butt Monkeys accomplish?

In sound bites on CNN they came across as superb examples of big city Public Education and Collegiate Socialist Indoctrination. Unkempt, ill advised and un-informed. Their arguments, rants and screeds did them and their brethern no good at all.

Jack.

That's what I heard on Fox, I think. IIRC, they said there was maybe 2,000 protesters there, way fewer than had been anticipated.

I like this...
the dufus in the picture who is holding up the "worst president ever" sign looks to be maybe 25 or so years old.

In all his years of meaningful political dissent, he could have only been personally aware of a handful of American presidents.

Indoctrination is an ugly thing...
