This will piss off the TV talking heads who were saying that the Iraqi elections aren't going to make a difference in other ME countries. (Laura Ingraham's show today had a sound clip of some Bush-bash woman elitist saying that democracy is a dream in the ME...wish I could remember her name.)

Well guess what? Sometimes dreams DO come true!! : ) My prayers are with the Iranian anti-mullahcracy movement!

Question my dedication, expect an answer.

I suspect Bush will use his State of The Union speech will correct more than a few of their precarious prognostications.

I suspect you are correct. I heard some of the newspaper responses today to Lincoln's Gettysburg address. They didn't like it. LOL.

Well, granted, Iraqi election will have a huge effect in the entire region. But Iranians have been ready to vote and have voted in the last 25 years without it meaning anything. Both countries deserve real meaningful elections. KSA and some others though, need education to create desire for democracy before they know what to do with one. Freedom is not a given, its earned and appreciated only by yearning and fighting for it. Those culture needs to evolve into democracy.

Why so much name calling around here?

Let's show each other some respect.

The Persian people had a very cultured, intelligent society which was ripped away from them.

YOu are partly right. An acquaintance of mine who had to flee Iran some years ago told me that the reason Komeni (can't spell it) got in was because the 'intellectuals' wanted the Shah out and then they were stunned to discover that Komeni turned on them.

There. That's a bit more accurate, don't you think?

As I remember it, George Bush "The Elder" was the President at the time of the first Desert Storm, and was the one who pledged tactical and materiel support for a Kurdish uprising against Saddam in the North.

Of course after his ouster, Bill Clinton was only too happy to continue to turn his back on the Kurds. It was a dastardly thing to do, I have will never forgive him for falsely raising their hopes, only to dash them to pieces for the sake of political expediency.

I hope and pray that GW is made of sterner stuff.

Have either of you read "Reading Lolita in Tehran - A Memoir in Books" by Azar Nafisi? In it she reers to the students at the University of Tehran revolting and says, "Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it." She goes on to speak of how naive some of them were about the whole thing. I recommend this book. It's well written and explains her feelings of living in Iran (as an educated woman) under Islamic rule.

I wonder what she (Dr. Nafisi) thinks of the Presidents' Inaugural Address?

. . . will avoid an unnecessary US invasion or military strike against Iranian facilities . . .

Ahh, yes . . . Same old story . . . Clumsy, stupid Americans . . . Always doing stupid, unnecessary things . . . Stupid Americans can't do anything right and never do. Murdered our great leader Musaddiq and set us on the path to ruin. (Never mind that it saved our dumb, backward butts from living and suffering 40 years under communist rule.) Those stupid, clumsy Americans.

Ha, buncha BS! I'm tellin 'ya, these guys are all blow and no go (btw, what day is it now anyway, day 10,000?). I know muslims: They want us to do this for them so they can sit back and criticize us for whatever it is we end up doing or not doing, whilst taking no risks to help themselves or to help the foreign infidel soldiers sent by the Great Satan.

Now . . . if they REALLY want to do something to end their oppression, they can sneak into their father's room tonight and slit his throat. The probability is 99.99% he was a BIG supporter of Ayatollah Khomeini. Until then -- and until they convert to Christianity and admit that assassinating Musaddiq was a stroke of American genius -- you can color me unconvinced.

The bombs are coming. The sooner, the better.
