Nope just adding to your thread a link in case anyone wants to read as the whole business was unfolding. Thanks for posting the update because not everyone wants to wade through so many posts.

I used to live and practice in Tyler. It is a great town. My parents have retired to a place near there. It's a sweet place and I can see why the girl expected nothing of this sort to happen.

This just proves that no woman is safe, anywhere.

Send the former 'marine' here. I'll bet he doesn't last two minutes.

This just proves that no woman is safe, anywhere.

Or any unarmed person or unescorted child.

Chivalry is dead. Security guards nor co-workers escort ladies to their cars anymore.

If companies forbid CCW in their buildings/parking-lots I wonder if they could be held liable when these situations arise.

Agreed. At least in Texas, you can carry. I live in the midwest and travel extensively across the country. I can't carry a gun through an airport and into most states. I just try to be careful.

Yes, they are liable for someone falling in the parking lot. You are liable if someone is injured on your property.

I do not blame Wal-Mart. I do wish that all 24 businesses would make it very difficult for this to happen. One way is to have an escort out to the car in the evening hours. There should be some other methods that would discourage this.

I imagine a lawyer would say that preventing this particular crime would involve creating a scene, accusations of racism, etc. However, it would be worth it to save a young woman's life.

Hmmm, will this be considered a hate crime? Somehow I doubt it.

I agree. If he was noticed hanging out for sometime, it is always wise to report a suspicious person, regardless. Being a wee bit more aggressive might have saved a life.

The crime was committed in Texas, we'll extradite him, give him a fair trial and execute him forthwith. Guaranteed.

He picked her up in Tyler, killed her in Santon, and tries a robbery in Arizona. Why do you think he was headed for El Paso, two states behind him?
