Security DID check him out when they saw him loitering. He stated he "was waiting for a ride."

'The apparent abductor - a man in a long, dark coat - was seen loitering around the front entrance of the store "for a good period of time,"

So why didn't security check him out?

I read that a security guard did in fact question him, on another thread. But nothing came of it. So tragically sad.

there is no reason to even have security cameras if :

1. they don't work or produce fuzzy pictures.....

2. no one is watching them to prevent crimes.....

its a shame that companies don't have a little more reguard for their employees....would it have been too much to have a watchman out there walking people to their cars?

He got a bad conduct discharge for smoking weed. I hear this on the news this morning. They interviewed his mom. I hope she's not serious about blaming the Marines.

My oldest daughter used to work for a department store at the local mall. A deputy sheriff moonlighted there at night working in the men's clothing where she also worked. He would always walk the employees to their cars at closing. More than once he went over to cars with young single males in them and told them to go find someplace else to screw off.

Store security as a whole is a joke. It is not designed to protect the customer, but to protect the store from theft by providing an ID, although fuzzy and grainy of the shop lifter placing the goods into their car.

My security while shopping rides on my right hip. In fact, I'm about to go to a couple places, and it's there right now.

A few years ago, there was an attempted carjacking in the parking lot of our local Wal-Mart. Mind you, this is a relatively safe area, in an upscale area, and the Wal-Mart is literally a 1/2 mile down the street from a major police precinct. Just to highlight that bad things can occur anywhere.

And regarding this attempted hijacking - the target drew his CCW and shot the carjacker in the neck. Didn't kill him, but removed all his enthusiasm for his undertaking. I spoke with a local cop about it a couple months later, he said all the cops at the precinct were high-fiving the citizen, who was there to give a statement afterwards. I love living in a red state, where common sense still rules.

Yep! We are going to Ft Knox this morning to pickup a prescription for my in-laws. I will tell the gate security that we are also going to French Range and have a handgun in the car. I do not carry into Ft Knox facilities as that is a good way to meet an MP and then see the Federal Magistrate, but carrying in the car on the way is fine.

I'm wondering if they didn't approach the guy because he was African-American and they didn't want to be accused of racism.

"I hope she's not serious about blaming the Marines."

The Marine Corps builds men, but they've got to have something to start with.

"...why was she going to her car alone at that hour?"

because, among other things, at 19 you are invulnerable. It does appear she knew she was being followed, but too late. The store, and every business establishment, really should have a buddy system for employees, especially those working at night.

This subhuman would still be out ravaging the countryside if not for an armed citizen.

He would have been a lot safer in NYC.

"More than once he went over to cars with young single males in them and told them to go find someplace else to screw off."

We can lay a lot of the blame for this murder on our liberal society.

That deputy sheriff could have been sued for profiling young single males.

Fox tv just said her boyfriend had died during a terrible asthma attack, and she'd just gotten her life back together. This is dreadful, dreadful. Fox said Wal-Mart's security should have watched Williams, since he loitered there for hours. They did ask him once if he needed help, and he said he was waiting for a ride. They should have kept an eye on him.

You know if you have a CCW, and keep your mouth shut about it whose going to know, and if you land up having to use it whose going to care that you weren't suppose to have it. Isn't that the point of CC?

I agree. Many of my clients' grandsons have been saved from a life of crime and desperation. There's reason to blame the Marines.

I work with a guy who constantly talks about where he carries and where he does not. I will stand for hours telling anyone who will listen about what he carries and where he carries. I have taken him aside and sort of warned him that the idea behind CCW is not to know, but he continues to jabber about it.

Trust the media to put an antiwar spin on it. The AP story quoted the suspect's mother as suggesting that he went bad because of what he "endured" as a marine in Iraq. More likely he was bad already, and shouldn't have been in the Marine Corps.

"There's reason to blame the Marines."

I'm sure you meant to insert a "no" in there, and I agree.

Were it not for the Marine Corps, I would have spent some time in the penitentiary myself.
Not bad, just angry.

Bad typo... yes that's what I meant. There are many Marines who turn out to fine young men productive and good men.
