Iran student to be flogged 74 times, serve 2 years in prison

Sat. 22 Jan 2005

Iran Focus

Tehran, Jan. 22 – An Iranian medical student was sentenced to two years prison time and 74 lashes by Iran's Revolutionary Court on political charges, according to a state-run news agency.

Reza Ashrafpour, a young man studying dentistry in Iran's University of Medical Sciences had been charged with "acting against national security", "propaganda against the regime", "spreading panic in society", and "insulting the Supreme Leader".

It is believed that authorities were looking to convict Ashrafpour for the past two years.

Security forces have in recent months launched a new clampdown on youth and women in universities as part of a new campaign to stem the spate of anti-government protests in the country.

But the majority of Iranians disagree with that and they apologized for the action of a few who did that ugly thing. I have heard many of them offering apologize for that action...

Do you know any thing about flight 655 which shot down by USS Vincense in the Persian gulf in 1988?

Oh please do not misunderstand me I, like GW, believe democracy is going to break out all over the middle east.

I believe it so strongly I have money invested in Iraq. But you must not deceive yourself to some very powerful spiritual elements to this fight going on here.

That is a must but imposing democracy by bomb is some thing else.

The Times of India ^ | Monday, January 24, 2005 at 0102 hours IST | PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
LONDON, JANUARY 23: Britain has drawn up a case against military attack on Iran amidst fears that US President George W. Bush may seek its backing for a new conflict, a media report said on Sunday. British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has produced a 200-page dossier that rules out military action and makes the case for a ‘‘negotiated solution’’ to curb Iran’s suspected nuclear ambitions, The Sunday Times reported. He will press home the point at a meeting with Condoleezza Rice, the incoming US Secretary of State, in (snip)

To overthrow the current Islamic administration will have to be by force. You do not suppose that they would just fold up the tent and go away because of a student demonstration. To overthrow them would require the backing of people that have a vast monetary resources and that could control the economy.

Regarding Flight 655 that is another story that was played on the people for sympathy.

Re: flight 655,
While the Iranians offered their apologies for the hostage crisis, the USA didn't offer any thing to say that the incident was unintentional and the US is sorry about it.

I believe the relation between two nations is so important and we need to maintain it in order to let them understand that they are not alone if they rise!

The interview to Ledeen yesterday was wonderful. I've to thank also Aryo for quoting my name at the end of the program.

Regardind strikes on nuclear facilities, I recommend to be careful. Loosing the support of the Pro-Us Iranian population will be catastrophic.

I am pro-Bush and pro-Sharon but like Doctor Zin, I oppose any strikes and military action who might turn the pro-US population of Iran against us.

The Mullahs are desperately seeking this military action.

It's up to us to disappoint them and instead, favor Regime Change by the Iranian people.

How? Give them political, moral and FINANCIAL support.

Anyway, US and Israel have confirmed that there will not be any military action.

Ledeen himself has repeated, yesterday, that there's no need for a military intervention in Iran.

I think that we should hear his wise advises.

He's a great man.
