Girls For A Change, a group of Bozeman High School girls, have been busy creating an educational and inspirational one-day conference for high school-age girls and actress/activist Jane Fonda has agreed to be the keynote speaker.

The conference will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Montana State University Strand Union Building.

"Opening Doors" is designed to help girls build a future in which they are economically self-sufficient and successful in all aspects of their lives -- personal, academic, and professional lives.

The planning committee's invitation to Fonda to be the keynote speaker "elicited a speedy and enthusiastic response," according to a prepared statement.

A two-time Oscar-winning actress, Fonda now focuses on girl's reproductive health and building resiliency in girls and boys by addressing destructive gender stereotypes. She has traveled extensively in the developing world on behalf of these issues.

The conference will include panel discussions, workshops, and art and movement activities.

With the help of professional and inspirational business women, the girls will learn strategies to critique stereotypes in the media, communicate more effectively and overcome stress and anxiety. They will also will explore their individuality, self-awareness, and confidence through creative writing, yoga, and improvisation.

Founded in January 1997 in Bozeman by 16 girls and their female mentors, Girls for a Change is devoted to supporting and encouraging the successful development of local girls.

"This group of girls is fabulous," Beth Nave, a program coordinator for Prevent Child Abuse Inc., who has served as liaison between the girls' planning committee, the adult planning committee and sponsors.

"They are excited to learn about the opportunities and resources available to them in their local community as well as the greater world and want to share that information with their peers."

The event is sponsored by Montana State University, Prevent Child Abuse, Inc. and Turner Youth Initiative.

The conference costs $5 for students, including snacks and lunch, and scholarships are available. Registration closes Feb. 10. Registration forms are available at local high schools.

The general public is invited to the noon luncheon with keynote speaker Jane Fonda; the cost for the lunch is $20.

Okay... he won by a couple of thousand votes in the three precincts that make up Bozeman. Big whoop!

You might as well give up. If she can't understand what's why patriots don't adore Hanoi Jane, she'll never follow those complicated figures.

Yelling about it doesn't help you in your cause. We're talking about a total of what? Two thousand votes?

Hanoi Jane's message is "It's my fondest wish, that some day, every American will get down on their knees and pray to God that some day they will have the opportunity to live in a Communist Society."

If you qualify that a victory margin of a couple of thousand votes in three out of five precincts in one county that overwhelming went for Bush as not being conservative what does?

We're talking about BOZEMAN alone, not Gallatin county as a whole.

Check my above post on Gallatin county election.

And when did she say that? And I sincerely doubt she'll be saying that at that conference.

We're talking about a couple of thousand of votes? Maybe its my fault. I live in Phoenix AZ where we have a couple of hundred thousand voters that vote in any election in my city in which I reside. See the difference?
