Thousands of protesters on both sides of the abortion issue clashed in San Francisco in rival demonstrations Saturday, the 32nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
In dueling marches, about 6,000 antiabortion activists in the Walk for Life West Coast were jeered and harangued by about 3,000 advocates for abortion rights, some waving wire hangers.
Walk for Life organizers Dolores Meehan and Eva Muntean said they knew holding an antiabortion rally in the liberal bastion of San Francisco would certainly spark outrage. But doing so would draw the greatest exposure, Meehan said.
"We're trying to change hearts and minds," Meehan said. "We needed to go where people's points of view are a little bit different than ours. If we did this in Indiana, it would be interesting, but it would not have nearly the impact."
Organizers of the dueling protests had divergent strategies. The antiabortion group specifically avoided confronting their opponents, while the pro-choice contingent that lined the Embarcadero berated the larger group with insults and accused them of bringing in people from out of town to bolster their cause.
Two people with the pro-choice group were arrested for assault on a police officer, said police Capt. Denis O'Leary, who estimated the size of the two crowds. . . .

Abortion-rights supporters make their way to San Francisco's Embarcadero to confront abortion opponents taking part in the Walk for Life West Coast.

An abortion rights supporter was arrested by police after her group forced the anti-abortion Walk for Life West Coast to divert their route.

Hmmmm ... will they be facing a possible 47 years in jail ??
Some how I doubt it
Good turnout for San Francisco. Kudos to these courageous people.
California haters on the fringes of FReep, take note.
We went to the pro-life service in our city today. Beautiful and very encouraging.
A speaker gave out stats that were very encouraging concerning the decline in providers and if I am correct, even the number performed. Wish I could remember.
At any rate all of us are making a difference.
NO WIRE HANGERS!

"She" looks like Eminem in a sports bra.

This war of death is not political, or "sad" or culturally divisive. It is Good versus Evil in its starkest and plainest form.
One of the most tragic and saddest commentaries on abortion I ever read was this: How Lying Marketers sold Roe v. Wade to America.
Excerpt:
_________________________________________________________________________
" "Saline abortions have to be done in the hospital because of complications that can arise," says OB/GYN staffer Debra Henry. "Not that they can't arise during other times, but more so now. The saline, a salt solution, is injected into the woman's sac and the baby swallows it. The baby starts dying a slow, violent death. The mother feels everything, and many times it is at this point when she realizes that she really has a live baby inside of her, because the baby starts fighting violently for his or her life. He's just fighting inside because he's burning.
"One night a lady delivered and I was called to come and see her because she was uncontrollable," says David Brewer, M.D., of Glen Ellyn, Ill. As a military physician in Ft. Rucher, Ala., Brewer performed abortions for 10 years. "I went in the room, and she was going to pieces; she was having a nervous breakdown, screaming and thrashing. The nurses were upset because they couldn't get any work done, and all the other patients were upset because this lady was screaming. I walked in, and here was her little saline abortion baby kicking. It had been born alive, and was kicking and moving for a little while before it finally died of those terrible burns, because the salt solution gets into the lungs and burns the lungs, too."
Amen.
The only thing he can do is ask for the redemption that God has offered through the Christ. It does not say in the article that he has done that, only that abortion finally sickened him to such a degree that the cash payments overflowing in his pockets was not enough to continue the bloody practice.
"This war of death is not political, or "sad" or culturally divisive. It is Good versus Evil in its starkest and plainest form. "
Amen.
That really sums it up.

There were plenty more there just like she/he/it.

Continuing their march intio irrelevancy - Hup.2,3, 4.
Actually, Barbara Bush was. She chose life. They hate-filled leftists are hard-pressed to say the word abortion and have to resort to empty euphemisms and rhetoric to get their brain-dead talking points across.
They rolled their eyes and said: "Sure, tell us."
She said: "I would bet several of you had abortions when you were younger, and the guilt is something that makes you furious. Democrats tell you that what you did was noble and necessary."
The party generated into a shouting fest, and many people left. The woman who challenged them tried to tell them she had had 2 abortions years ago, and knew what they felt, but there was no room for discussion. I never saw a room with so much tension and hostility.
I was there....
Two observations:
A pro-abort sign-waver with a poster reading "Protect My Daughter's Rights"
--- HUH?
The pro-abort contingent was, not unsurprisingly given the venue, heavily skewed with gays and lesbians
--- what was that old saying?
You no play-a the GAME, you no make-a the RULES? Leave the Life issues to the BREEDERS!
It was gratifying to show to the world that there are actually normal people who live on Ora Sinistra, the Left Coast.

I was there, too. It was good to freep with CounterCounterCulture. We had a great time! CCC took them on on the issue of civil rights. He was beautiful! My sign had a photo of Holly Marie Patterson who was killed by Planned Parenthood (RU 486).
It was the most amazing contrast - us and them. See for yourself by the photos.
Where were you? At one point I found myself at the very end of the procession. Had to hurry up to catch up with CounterCounterCulture. The opposition sure were nasty, weren't they? If I had a nickel for every middle finger and every "F" word that was hurled at us, I'd be rich. Sheeeeesh.

SAN FRANCISCO - Activists on both sides of the abortion issue marched in demonstrations across the country Saturday to mark the 32nd anniversary of the historic U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites) decision that made abortion legal.

The anniversary came amid speculation that retirements on the Supreme Court could alter its makeup and its long-standing defense of the Roe v. Wade (news - web sites) decision during President Bush (news - web sites)'s second term. Chief Justice William Rehnquist (news - web sites) is 80 and suffering from thyroid cancer.
In San Francisco, thousands of abortion opponents marched on the city's waterfront, chanting slogans like "Women deserve better," while abortion rights supporters tried to drown them out with their own rallying cries.
San Francisco Supervisor Tom Ammiano said he thought it was ironic that anti-abortion activists chose the liberal West Coast city as the site for their demonstration.
"I think they want to parlay that irony," Ammiano said. "What better place than San Francisco, not only as an act of provocation, but I think as an act of arrogance. But we know how to handle it."
Abortion opponents carrying American flags and signs reading "Parental Rights" and "Choose Life" also marched on the state capitol in Austin, Texas, where Republican Gov. Rick Perry pledged support for a bill requiring a minor to get her parents' consent for an abortion.
"Abortion needs to be brought in line with nearly every other medical procedure performed on minors, and that includes parental consent," said Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life.
Sarah Wheat, spokeswoman for NARAL Pro-Choice Texas, said her group opposes a parental consent law because it would not have a huge impact on the abortion rate.
"For us, it looks like a lot of time and energy that is not going to have that big of an impact, positive or negative," she said.
In Los Angeles, Catholic Cardinal Roger Mahony was expected to lead an annual "Respect Life Mass" Saturday featuring the lighting of 157 candles to signify the number of abortions being performed a day in the city.
My sign had photos of Holly Marie Patterson with the words "Rest In Peace - Ban RU-486 Abortion Pill"
I was not silent as I marched along. Neither was CounterCounterCulture. You know FReepers can't keep our mouths shut. You know that.
I said stuff like, "Holly was pro choice" and "Killed by Planned Parenthood" - stuff like that. They didn't like it much.
I have never seen so many horrible people in my life as those pro abortion people. Sheeeeeesh. I was so proud to be counted among the pro lifers.
I found myself at one point surrounded by pro life Mexicans - I knew they were singing about Jesus. Some were dancing and I joined in the dance.
At another point I was surrounded by pro life Catholics. They had pictures of Mary and pictures of Jesus. They were praying the Rosary. They were so sweet.
I couldn't help myself from yelling at some of the pro aborts. I couldn't help it! One of the orange shirts (our side) told me I was not supposed to say anything. I told him that Holly couldn't speak for herself so I wanted to speak for her. He kind of got mad at me but I couldn't shut up. No matter how hard I tried.
Oh, yeah, there was this pro abort woman who was nude from the waist up except for small strips of black tape covering her nipples - which just shows how stupid they are - it was cold!
There were also these women who had multiple plaster of paris breasts. It was so weird. They yelled obscenities at us; taunted us; made fun of us; flipped us off; they would have kicked and stomped on us except for the police. Thank Goodness for the Police or I'd probably be in jail right now.
Thanks for fighting the good fight on the other coast. Sounds like the same type of idjuts we were dealing with in DC last week. Saw a young girl with a binch a buttons on saying, " I Love Pro Choice Boys."
Is that a man, a woman, or an it???
NO WIRE HANGERS!
I'd laugh at your comments but the actions above really are just sickening me to death right now.
Sad to say, but both of my parents make my stomach turn.
On a more positive note, what's the best place in Jersey for rentals these days?
Sorry about your parents. I don't get how a parent can actually support abortion rights. I was pro choice once too, then I saw my firstborn on an ultrasound. Where's the best place in NJ for a rental? I would have to go with Pennsylania. j/k, are you coming back?
I'd move to Pennsylvania (as Ron Kuby calls the Poconos "Outerwhitelandia") only if I got a job there. For commuting to NYC, you would have to be insane to live there.
