Jan. 31 issue - Senate Democrats put off a vote on White House counsel Alberto Gonzales's nomination to be attorney general, complaining he had provided evasive answers to questions about torture and the mistreatment of prisoners. But Gonzales's most surprising answer may have come on a different subject: his role in helping President Bush escape jury duty in a drunken-driving case involving a dancer at an Austin strip club in 1996. The judge and other lawyers in the case last week disputed a written account of the matter provided by Gonzales to the Senate Judiciary Committee. "It's a complete misrepresentation," said David Wahlberg, lawyer for the dancer, about Gonzales's account.
Bush's summons to serve as a juror in the drunken-driving case was, in retrospect, a fateful moment in his political career: by getting excused from jury duty he was able to avoid questions that would have required him to disclose his own 1976 arrest and conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) in Kennebunkport, Maine.

It sounds like this guy never got called for jury duty. In a drunken driver case you'd be excused if you had a DUI conviction on your record. He didn't cover up anything. He was eliminated because of the system.
I heard that President Bush, while serving as the Gov. of Texas, once changed lanes without signaling. Someone ought to call Newsweak.
Pity they weren't this interested in Toon's and Kerry's backrounds...
And this ongoing smear helps the US defeat terrorists around the world...how? Lives and worldwide civilization are at stake, and the MSM is busy helping the democratic party commit suicide. Talk about stupid.
The same senate democrats who thought Clinton's rape of Juanita Broderick was a non-issue. Wonder how they'd feel if he'd raped one of their wives or daughters. They continue to jump off the nearest cliff.
Just how could Gonzales have helped Bush keep a DUI quiet that Bush recieved thirty years ago in Maine?
Two or three more years of this crap and they will be giving away coupons for a free striptease in Vegas with every hour you watch their "news" or buy their mags.
Bush was the Governer. Since when would they allow someone who could pardon the accused to also sit on the jury. This is sooooo bogus.
LOL. I totally agree with you on that one.
"I am Michael Isikoff, and I am an Investigative Journalist, damnit! Isn't Bill Clinton great?"
"Rape? Who? Where" I don't need to write about that! Shaaaaadupp already, you B^tch!"
"Now here is a scandal. GW Bush used an expired coupon at the Austin Piggly Wiggly in 1987."
See my tagline.
I love watching the entire left, beginning with the MSM, collapse like a house of cards. Now, if only the university systems would fold the same way.
In background check they only look back 10 years, That includes anyone applying for a journalist position!
They still have Piggly Wiggly's? ;-)
Bush had a DUI? I want my vote back. Had I known this, if John Kerry had served in Viet Nam I would have definitely voted for him instead.
I won't miss them, cause I never watch.
Sadly, I think it is very possible. But be of good cheer! We're witnessing the self-destruction of the MSM :)
