Dr. Pepper "Stacy's Mom" ad
Men's News Daily ^ | Monday Jan 24, 2005 | Fido969

Posted on 01/24/2005 6:53:57 PM PST by Fido969

Did anyone catch the Dr. Pepper ads shown during the playoffs yesterday?

The first ad features the song "Stacy's mom" (...has got it going on), which, if you have heard it, is sung by a hormone-driven teen who flirts back and forth with his girlfriend's mom. The Dr. Pepper ad shows a group of boys about 10-12 years old playing in a park when a mini-van drives up. Very close shots of the driver as she gets out of the van, a sneaker, keys jingling, a "tease" as the wind blows her blouse a few inches above her belt. Subtle, sexy stuff.

The kids stop and look as she pulls the side door open and pops the top on a cooler of Dr. Pepper.

The kids smile and race to the cooler.

The last few quick shots have the words from the song "I'm in love with Casey's mom..." one child gazes reverently up at the woman, who gives back a knowing smirk.

It was just CREEPY. Gender test! I can't imagine this commercial with a leering guy and some pre-pubescent girls. Ewwww.....

Anyway, the "Diet Doctor Pepper" commercial shows a fellow screaming as he tumbles down a mountain on a snowboard. He crashes in a heap in front of a couple of teenagers, one who says "I think your getting it, dad". Dad, flat on his face and covered with snow, manages to move only his hand in a "thumbs-up". Just another incompetent clumsy dad ad.

Anyway, I was struck by the contrast of the two ads.

"Dr. Pepper commercials are always stupid."

Not so. One of the current ones is done to the tune of Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love, But I Won't Do That."

Scene 1: Guy is in a grocery store, carrying a box of tampons to the counter, while looking out at his car, where his girlfriend is waiting for him. He takes a drink of Dr. Pepper while the clerk is asking over the intercom for a price check.

Scene 2: Same guy is in the laundromat with his girlfriend, folding laundry with her. He holds up a pair of her lacy underwear and is folding it. I think he takes a drink of Dr. Pepper again.

Scene 3: Same guy, participating in a yoga class with same girlfriend, contorting into all sorts of positions, yet he smiles at his girlfriend next to him. Dr. Pepper can prominently displayed on the floor next to them.

Final scene: Guy laying on couch with girlfriend laying against him, watching movie. She absently reaches for his Dr. Pepper and is about to take a drink. Next thing you know, he has stood up, and she is looking at him with a surprised expression on her face. He leaves the room, and she follows him out onto the street, where he is running away. Guy takes a drink of Dr. Pepper.

Funny stuff.

They should've gotten Mary Kay LeTourneau to star in this ad.

There is an undercurrent of casually sexualized pedophilia in the social zeitgeist. It is creepy.

A few years ago we were dealing with more straightforwardly sexualized pedophilia in underwear ads -- that was easy to compartmentalize and isolate off in the out-of-normal band. This is an attempt to normalize, to stay in band of normal behaviour.

As you suggest it may have been authored by a homosexual to promote pederasty by means of a female switcheroo -- which runs in the same vein as happened with Sex-in-the-City and Desperate Housewifes.

I think it more likely a South Park social cynic libertarian punching out at the hypocrisy in the MTV renditions of "Stacy's Mom" and subconsciously tuned into the same gesalt as the recent flurry of adult woman teachers hooking up with young boys.

Nobody has posted the lyrics?

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, can i come over after school? (after school)
We can hang around by the pool (hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip? (business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip? (give me the slip)

You know, I'm not the little boy that I used to be
I'm all grown up now, baby can't you see

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want and I;ve waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn? (mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on (towel on)
I could tell she liked me from the way she stared
And the way she said, "You missed a spot over there"

And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out, your mom could use a guy like me

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want, and I've waited so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong,
but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Eeew! That said, my dad tells a funny story about how he and his uncle used to drive cattle trucks into St. Louis, when Dad was in his teens, and his uncle wouldn't let him try out the room "with comforts" at the truckers' hotel where they stayed. This was around 1952.

"Heh... You're wrong on both ads. First... It IS NORMAL for teen boys to admire beautiful women."

It's "normal" for them to masturbate, too. Do you think they should sell Dr. Pepper with that slice of life?

"And lighten up about clumsy dad... dad's aren't under attack here, they are trying to be young."

Trying to be young is stupid, unless you are young. The ad is just one more "Dad's an idiot" cartoon. There is only one racial and age group that it's O.K. to publicly ridicule: Middle-aged white males.

To me, Dr. Pepper tastes like Castoria, that horrible liquid laxative we had to take (while holding our noses) as kids.

They could have women strip naked in their ads, and I would not buy that foul-tasting libation.

After the steady run of "male enhancement" ads on these games, this one almost seemed wholesome.

I liked that Levitra lasy, she seems like fun....

Exactly. We have a TV to show videos, and sometimes we watch things like the Republican convention or the inauguration on internet video. But every time we see broadcast TV, I'm just shocked. The other day in the barber shop, there was a TV on showing "Little House on the Prairie," no problem, but the commercials were unspeakable. Fortunately the kids mostly weren't watching, but my oldest boy (10) got a partial-eyeful in some ad for a "reality" series.

I disagree. I think dads who try to snowboard are cool... and he was being a good sport about it.

Face it... some of y'all are on the constant lookout for something to be offended by.

Them ones with BOB for the male enhancement are so stupid they're funny. In fact in one of them he has banana or something in his pants. The other serious ones are pathetic. The first time I heard the one with the 4 hour erection side affect I cringed. These don't seemed to be aimed at the Bob Dole type, but more for the 89 year old Anna Nicole husband type. You risk death to please some bimbo.

People taking offense at a Dr.Pepper comercial. Good grief. It's BLATANTLY obvious that the kids are portrayed to love the drink; they are not sexually attracted to the "Mom." There is absolutely nothing that's offensive about it.

Agreed. She was not MILF material.
