Specter Adding Wife Of Dem Player Joseph Torsella, To Judiciary Staff
The Legal Intelligencer ^ | January 14, 2005 | unknown-The Legal Intelligencer

Posted on 01/24/2005 7:02:23 PM PST by smokeyb

Carolyn Short, one of the chief litigators in Reed Smith's Philadelphia office for more than a decade, has left the firm to become general counsel for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, which is now chaired by Arlen Specter, R-Pa.

Short resigned last Tuesday from Reed Smith, her professional home for the past 16 years, and was sworn in Thursday. Short said she only views it as a temporary position, being that she and her husband, former U.S. Constitutional Center executive director and Democratic congressional candidate Joseph Torsella, live with their four children in Flourtown.

She said her chief motivation for accepting the position and giving up what is believed to be a seven-figure book of business was the chance to work with Specter. She said the senior senator from Pennsylvania called her shortly after he was named chairman of the Judiciary Committee. "I don't think I would be doing this if it wasn't for [Specter]," Short said. "He's a brilliant lawyer in his own right and we come from similar backgrounds. We both were DAs who worked in private practice. "But how could any lawyer say no to an opportunity like this? It's an important time for the judiciary, and I'm really looking forward to it."

Specter is such a useless Republican. Ann Coulter wrote about him 6 months ago: DONKEY TRAPPED IN ELEPHANT'S BODY That guy has damaged the GOP enormously.

Well since Spector was elected with no help from any one, he can surely appoint a democrat to "his" committee. I'm sure she was helping to elect George Bush and other republicans.

This is getting worse than I could have imagined. He's going to probably drag Santorum down with him. Obviously he thinks of nothing but his own personal ambition.

Is there anything that can be done now?

Can Specter be "de-frocked" and stripped of his chairmanship?

If so, the Pubs better make it snappy and pull the rug out from under Arlen.

Ahh, many screamed about Arlen Specter's treachery before he got the Senate Judiciary Committee chair. Did the Republican eunuchs of the senate listen? Of course not. They are all graduates of the Neville Chamberlain school of Political Appeasement.

We were assured he could be in the first debate on this. If a majority of committee members vote to remove him, I think.

Specter is right up there with Chrissy Whitman and Tom Kean as three of Bush's worst choices.

I think Bush I is giving Bush II advice - and that's VERY bad.

I don't have trouble communication with 99 percent of the people on this forum; it's the 1 percenters whose responses don't deserve anything except a post in kind in return.
