Senate GOP Agenda Missing Illegal Immigration And Gay Marriage [Hello Senator Frist??]
Captain's Quarters ^ | Jan. 25, 2005 | Captain Ed

Posted on 01/25/2005 5:43:40 AM PST by conservativecorner

The conservative wing of the GOP will not delight in the Senate's agenda for this session of Congress. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist left illegal immigration and gay marriage of of the list of top Republican issues:

Senate Republican leaders outlined their 10 top legislative priorities yesterday, focusing mainly on cutting taxes and restructuring Social Security. But two notable omissions -- changes to immigration laws and a ban on same-sex marriage -- underscored tensions with their conservative wing. ... The Senate Republicans' top 10 list calls for adding private accounts to Social Security, extending President Bush's tax cuts, limiting personal-injury lawsuits and expanding domestic oil exploration. But GOP Senate leaders moved cautiously on more contentious issues, including abortion, same-sex marriage and immigration.

This will be news to conservatives like Rep. James Sensenbrenner, who eventually signed onto the 9/11 Commission "reforms" even though they included nothing about illegal immigration. The Bush administration and GOP leadership promised Sensenbrenner that the issue would be taken up in the next session of Congress. Now it looks like Frist wants to drop it from the radar screen. He doesn't even have the nerve to explain it himself; he sent Rick Santorum to deliver the bad news:

Although their House counterparts are preparing to offer anti-terrorism legislation that includes broad crackdowns on illegal immigration, Senate Republicans did not mention immigration in the legislative agenda they outlined for reporters yesterday. With several Republican senators supporting expanded guest-worker programs, "we don't have a consensus" in the Senate GOP caucus, said its third-ranking leader, Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.). What is Frist thinking? Santorum already has problems with conservatives in Pennsylvania, thanks to Frist pushing Santorum to support Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in the Republican primaries last spring. Now he's using Santorum to shield himself from conservative wrath over the retreat on border security. That should help the Democrats grab Santorum's seat in 2006, as it almost guarantees a primary fight with Toomey or someone that Pennsylvania conservatives can trust.

In an age of terror and in a time of war, there should be no higher priority than securing our borders, one way or another. I understand that some may have different ideas of how to accomplish it -- but dropping it to a secondary or tertiary position on the agenda is unacceptable. It not only discounts national security, but it's just plain political stupidity. The omission allows Democrats to seize it as a way to establish national-security credentials at GOP expense.

After watching Frist get pushed around on judicial nominations last year, I wondered if the GOP leadership in the Senate needed a backbone transplant. I'm thinking that the entire central nervous system needs replacing now.

"I'm thinking that the entire central nervous system needs replacing now."

Yes. Well put. Time to deluge their mail, e-mail and phone lines.

Is there a good constitutional party alternative to move to?

Immigration and border security reform/enforcement is a FAR more important issue than banning gay marriage, IMHO.

Did anyone actually think these Vote Whores would keep their promise about making illegal immigration a top priority this session? Both the Senate and the House needs a big cleaning out come next election.

Homosexuality is the biological response to overpopulation and therefore gay marriage is moral. Overpopulation is the most overwhelming problem of our time, and we generally lack the ability to see this. Outdated morality denies us a sustainable future and embraces Armageddon.

No the world was not over-populated in those times, that is part of the problem with people not being able to grasp human population dynamics, We grow according to equations that fit every other species. We have yet to evolve to the point where we stop behaving like animals.

Polymuser: See Random Excess' response.

Random Excess: That's exactly how I feel.

JustanAmerican: If terrorists sneak up from Mexico and commit an atrocity in the US, we the people should conduct that "cleaning out" of Congress WITHOUT an election. August 1814 comes to mind...

We citizens have more guns than does our military. And more four wheelers, bikes, snowmobiles, boats, planes, GPS units, scopes and general hunting gear. And our enemies know it. So, I'm not worried about invasion. Hell, bring it on and let's get it over with once and for all; I'm tired of toying with the cretins.

A boy has more real risk from STD's. Gay males have high STD rates. And children are being pushed to 'discover' if they're gay at an early age in our public schools. Legal gay marriage would be a final 'seal of approval'. Do you know how many partners gay boys have, before they might just find 'Mr. Right'? Gay marriage is the blade on the left's spear; once it cuts in, great damage follows. It's happening right now.

Our border and immigration are definitely critical. But so is stopping perversity, IMHO.

I agree, but the other issues can be handled at the same time. Are we only allowed one issue at a time? They need to get off their asses, and get to work!

If population pressure is such a problem to you, then do something about it, starting with yourself. The whole "sustainable" scam is nothing more than "get rid of all the faceless masses I never see anyway" usually followed by "that way nature will be protected from us bad humans who don't deserve to exist (except me any my friends, of course)".

Malthus was wrong, and so are you.

"15 illeal immigrants from S.KOREA and man accused of trying to smuggle them across the US were arrested in New Mexico on NY bound Amtrak train"

You are right, and I am sorely disappointed by this fact. We are fighting to save our nation, and the band of clowns we call the Republicans Leadership in the senate are in La-La Land. Is the senate full of drag queens, or does somebody over their have a set?

Maybe it's just as well it doesn't come up. When you really look at the President's plan to match willing workers with willing employees, we would be better off if that doesn't happen.

THE PROBLEM WITH "ANY WILLING EMPLOYEE" IMMIGRATION REFORM
By Michelle Malkin   ·   January 23, 2005 10:32 AM

Does President Bush mean it when he says he wants an "immigration policy that helps match any willing employer with any willing employee"?

In a letter to the Los Angeles Times published this morning, Doug Ellice of Bethesda, Md., examines the implications of such a policy:

When people say, "match willing workers with willing employers, as long as American workers honestly cannot or do not want to fill the jobs," can they imagine how many people from other hemispheres might want to apply?

If anyone wants to hire hard-working poor people who, in addition, speak English, the Philippines can send 1 million or 2 million next Friday.

And if language is not required, Chinese workers can do to Mexican workers in our job market the same damage that Chinese manufacturers are doing to Mexican manufacturers in their respective factories.---snip

[T]he primary consideration as to how many guest workers might be admitted into the country appears to be the willingness of the employers and their foreign-born employees to match up the ability of the program "to fulfill the employers' needs."

As the President's position currently stands, that means that every new job created in America could be offered at minimum wage, and if no American can be found to accept the eroded wage, the job would be up for grabs to any foreign guest worker who's willing.

Is there a good constitutional party alternative to move to?

Yes, here are some alternatives to consider:

Constitutional Party
Platform looks solid on border, immigration & visa isssues.
Constitution Party

America First Party
Several bullet points on both illegal & legal immigration in their platform.
America First Party

Independant American Party
I found no mention of immigration or illegal aliens in their platform.
Independant American Party

The American Party
From their platform: "We are opposed to all illegal aliens and, therefore, support laws and enforcement to deport them."
The American Party
